Some time ago, we reported how Swiss luxury watch brand Chopard were partnering with Porsche to commemorate the latter’s triumphant return to Le Mans, one of the greatest tests of motorsport endurance on the planet. As the most successful team in the history of the Heures du Mans, Porsche were returning after a sixteen year hiatus to confront the dominance of ‘new breed’ manufacturers like Audi, who have themselves dominated Le Mans in the last decade-and-a-half, and to say expectations were high would be a gross understatement.
Ultimately, the outplaying of 
the last month’s race may not have gone quite according to the script of a fairytale return, with Porsche’s Hybrids posting a best finish of eleventh place; a standing that doesn’t do justice to the threat posed by Porsche before mechanical concerns stymied their chances of victory late in the day. In fairness, it was perhaps unrealistic to expect Porsche to sweep the field after such a long absence from Le Mans, and the celebrated car manufacturer is already said to be looking forward to next year’s confrontation where, doubtless, their challenge will be even harder to fend off.
The dust of Le Mans may now be well settled, but the spectacle is clearly still on the mind of Swiss jewellery house Chopard, because recently they have revealed a brand new watch to mark Porsche’s return to Le Mans. A special edition, the Superfast Chrono Porsche 919 is a chronometer-certificate timepiece featuring a heavily embellished dial that boasts striking black and red accents.
