Raymond Weil Baselworld Releases: an Overview

Today, it’s the turn of Raymond Weil to take centre stage in one of our ongoing Baselworld overview features, and as one of the last truly independent watchmakers in Switzerland, their releases were definitely of great interest to us. Raymond Weil may not possess the star-power of a brand like Rolex or Omega, but they undoubtedly compete in terms of watch-making aptitude, and create some extremely well-balanced and affordable timepieces. Here are some of their Baselworld highlights…

Limited Edition Frank Sinatra Maestro

The 100th anniversary of the birth of an icon like Frank Sinatra is something to celebrate, and that’s exactly what Raymond Weil chose to do at Baselworld 2015. This is a horological brand that has always venerated musical arts, so their decision to honour this milestone is entirely fitting, as is their way of doing so; a new limited edition ‘Maestro’ watch. This timepiece will be equipped with a trademark Raymond Weil automatic movement, whilst more personal touches are supplied through details like the hands – with a blue hue that mirrors Sinatra’s Ol’ Blue Eyes Is Back album – and a number of subtle insignia that relate to the legendary singer. There will doubtless be a number of tributes to Sinatra this year, but this stylish watch is certainly a great way to start the celebrations.

Gibson Music Special Edition Nabucco

Raymond Weil have already released a notable number of ‘music special editions’ in the past, but there’s always room for more collaborations, and this Nabucco watch represents their alliance with Gibson, ‘the fastest growing company in the music and sound industries’. Taking inspiration from the Gibson SG Standard, the circumference of the black dial features grooves that echo the strings of this instrument, and the Gibson logo is also present. Otherwise, this Nabucco is a mechanical chronograph with a 46 hour power reserve, although only a mere 200 pieces are being made, so it will be even less prolific than the 1,212 issues of the Sinatra watch. A frustrating fact for some!

The New Raymond Weil Toccata

We conclude with the introduction of not just a single re-imagined timepiece, but several new watches from Raymond Weil. Once again, a musical partnership is at the crux of this release; this time, it’s an alliance with classical violinist Nicola Benedetti. The Toccata collection was only released last year, so it’s still within its infancy, but this latest development – in honour of Benedetti – greatly bolsters this growing (and not to mention impressive) family. You can view the existing watches by taking a look at our Raymond Weil Toccata page, but we’re especially fond of the unveilings from Baselworld 2015; with a new size and a mother-of-pearl dial, the Toccata has never looked better.

Hopefully, the above details have given you a flavour of Raymond Weil’s Baselworld developments, and we’ll continue to bring you more details about these watches as and when we receive them. Also, don’t forget that you can view the wide-ranging Raymond Weil Maestro and Raymond Weil Nabucco collections here on our website right now, as there are already plenty of existing watches for you to enjoy.
