TAG Heuer Baselworld Releases: an Overview

TAG Heuer was definitely one of the Swiss horological brands that chose to tease the most releases before the date of Baselworld itself, and so it seems rather remiss of us to have neglected to post an overview of their developments before now. Never fear though, because that’s about to change. As with many of our other overviews thus far, there are plenty of individual models to scrutinise, so you’ll have to forgive us for majoring on just a few highlights. We’ll bring you more details in future!

The Carrera Calibre Heuer 01

Baselworld is undoubtedly the place to revel in something new, and the Carrera Calibre Heuer 01 is a supreme example of that fact. The philosophy at TAG Heuer is that a timepiece powered by an in-house calibre should be instantly distinguishable from one that doesn’t house such a mechanism, and the skeleton chronograph bridge and red column wheel of this watch ensure that this ambition is achieved.

Added to this, the case is new generation too, boasting a lightweight titanium design that exponentially boosts shock resistance, and also a never-before-used modular pattern that enables a myriad of new design possibilities. Perhaps mostly importantly, at least from a buyer’s point of view, the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 01 watch is priced at just £4,000, which is an aggressive tag that comes in at less than a standard Carrera 1887. For that reason, let alone the superb aesthetics, the Heuer 01 looks set to be extremely popular, especially when combined with our own options for 0% finance.

TAG Heuer Formula 1 CR7

Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most high-profile ambassadors to join a luxury Swiss watch brand in recent years, but TAG Heuer did not instantly create a new timepiece to honour this partnership; they waited until the opportune moment. Clearly, very few moments are more suited than those experienced at Baselworld, and so a new TAG Heuer Formula 1 CR7 special edition watch has been ushered in over the last week, and it’s certainly a welcome – not to mention exclusive – release.

The association with Ronaldo is achieved through the use of green; the symbolic colour of the pitches on which his superhuman skills are exercised. There’s also a ‘CR7’ logo on the dial, but interestingly this limited edition of 3,000 has also drawn upon other sources of inspiration too. For example, the strap is almost the doppelganger of a British army issue World War 2 strap, so this chronograph is likely to appeal to numerous audiences. It’s also available to pre-order today at Banks Lyon Jewellers for £1,200, so if you’re interested in purchasing this, or any other Tag Heuer Formula 1 watch, please let us know.

Special Editions and the Phantom

However, the CR7 isn’t the only special edition that has been brought to light at Baselworld 2015, as new timepieces have also been revealed in honour of Cara Delevingne and Jeremy Lin. The Carrera that acknowledges Cara Delevingne is full of elegance and extreme design choices; such as the padded black calfskin strap. The reverse of the watch also shows Delevingne’s icon (and star sign) of the lion and a gold imprint of the star’s signature, so there are many unique features to this unusual timepiece.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Lin, a newcomer to the TAG Heuer fold, has been involved in the release of a new Tag Heuer Aquaracer watch. Strikingly illuminated with flashes of yellow and engraved with Lin’s name, this is a fitting wristwatch for the basketball legend, and is also a sure-fire way to please all lovers of sporting horology. We also couldn’t conclude without mentioning the Monaco V4 Phantom, which takes last year’s revolutionary Monaco V4 and imbues it with a similar ‘all black’ aesthetic to the recently released Speedmaster ‘Black Black’ from Omega; clearly, this is a very popular trend at present!

It’s well worth spending a little extra time getting acquainted with TAG Heuer’s new releases, as there’s such a vast number that we simply can’t do them all justice in one article. We’d also highly recommend browsing through our Baselworld Releases page, or even the existing TAG Heuer watches, TAG Heuer Carrera and TAG Heuer Formula 1 pages right here on our website.
