If you’re a very observant movie goer then you may have noticed that Leonardo DiCapprio is wearing a Tag Heuer watch around his wrist in his latest blockbuster movie ‘Inception’.

It’s hardly surprising to see DiCapprio sporting a Carrera Automatic as he recently signed a three year deal to become an official ambassador of the Tag Heuer Company, so expect to see him wearing Tag Heuer watches in his other upcoming movies and public appearances. Brad Pitt was also sponsored by Tag Heuer for some time before DiCapprio took on the role.

A number of companies, notably watch manufacturers often sponsor popular celebrities to endorse their products in this manner, so if you spot a specific brand of clothing or a watch being worn by the leading man or woman in a big budget movie then there’s a fairly high chance that they’ve been specifically asked to do this.

This type of product placement is highly prevalent in Hollywood and actors, particularly those that playing major roles in high profile movies are often paid significant sums of money to endorse a certain product, and they’ll usually receive samples of the product itself too.

For the manufacturers of luxury watches this is a principle form of advertising. We already mentioned in this blog, earlier this week how being featured in James Bond movies elevated the Rolex Submariner to iconic status which is an example of just how effective this form of advertising can be.
