Watches at Wimbledon 2014

The iconic Championships, held at Wimbledon, are undoubtedly one of the annual jewels within the sporting crown, and the 2014 event certainly didn’t disappoint. Right from the momentous moment when Andy Murray stepped onto the hallowed lawns of centre court as defending champion, and all the way up until the absolutely breathtaking gentlemen’s single final between eventual champion Novak Djokovic and a rejuvenated Roger Federer, the tournament was littered with drama and glamour.

However, Wimbledon was also a fantastic tournament for the celebrity watch-enthusiasts among us too, and, for an event that boasts Rolex as its official timekeeper (not to mention Rolex ambassador Federer as one of its most decorated champions), you’d expect nothing less. We’ve already taken a look at the Duchess of Cornwall’s Cartier Ballon Bleu medium watch earlier in the week, and the Duchess was a regular visitor to The Championships, but there were many other notable personalities showcasing their luxury timepieces throughout the fortnight as well.

David Beckham

David Beckham was seen on several occasions enjoying the atmosphere at Wimbledon with his wife Victoria, and, as a brand ambassador for Breitling, is was no surprise to see a Breitling timepiece gleaming on his wrist. One of Beckham’s most favoured watches is the Breitling Transocean Unitime chronograph, a superb horological innovation that boasts a ‘universal time’ mode.

This astounding feature is conveyed through a central display on the dial, and allows the user to observe the time in any of the 24 world time zones at a single glance. Perfect for an avid traveller like Beckham, the watch is also supremely convenient to operate, thanks to a crown-operated correlation system, and comes with a high performance Breitling Caliber B05 to ensure maximum reliability.

This Breitling Transocean Chronograph Unitime is almost the double of David Beckham’s own timepiece, and can be yours today for £8,060, or 36 monthly payments of £179.11 and a 20% deposit.

Colin Firth

We weren’t quick enough to spot the watch that Colin Firth was wearing at The Championships, but based upon his current association with spy thriller film Kingsman: The Secret Service we’re willing to wager that it was a Bremont wristwatch. Bremont have taken a central role in supplying the chronometers for this film, and Firth has been spotted on several occasions wearing an as-yet-unreleased rose gold worldtimer from this rising star in British horology.

Numerous other personages within Kingsman have also been observed wearing the Bremont ALT1-B2 chronograph watch as part of their roles as trainee spies, so we can’t help but wonder whether Firth himself also favours this stylish chronometer. It mirrors the exclusive watch utilised by the ‘Stealth’ Bomber Aircrew in 2012, and comes equipped with a variety of over-engineered Bremont specialities, so such a watch certainly wouldn’t have looked out of place amid the esteemed guests at Wimbledon 2014.

The Bremont ALT1-B2 GMT chronograph watch used in Kingsman retails at Banks Lyon for £4,295, but can be worn on your wrist for 36 monthly payments of £95.44 alongside a 20% deposit.

Pippa Middleton

With Rolex’s long standing association with Wimbledon, it would almost be a crime to not see a few Rolex watches glimmering around the confines of centre court, and Pippa Middleton’s two-tone Lady Datejust certainly caught the eye whenever she attended this year. The Datejust is one of Rolex’s most venerated ranges, representing the very first time that a date function was included on a wristwatch, and Pippa Middleton’s luxurious timepiece (very similar to the one shown below) was a superb example of the current feminine incarnations that are on offer.

At Banks Lyon, we have a huge array of Rolex Datejust timepieces in our unmatched collection, and so we’re ideally placed if you’d like to make one of these iconic wristwatches your own. If you’d like more information about this style of Rolex watch, or indeed any of the other Breitling watches or Bremont watches that relate to the information in this article, then we welcome you to get in touch with our friendly and professional team.
