The New Bremont Wright Flyer: The Watch

Following swiftly on from discussing the history behind Bremont’s new Wright Flyer watch, it is time to turn our attention to the engineering details of this chronometer. Bremont pride themselves on their affinity with the aviation industry, and have created some of the most spectacular timepieces that have ever been developed for use within aeronautics, but they are confidently hailing the Wright Flyer as ‘the ultimate aviation watch’.

Having taken into account the significance of the Wright Flyer itself, the timepiece that bears its name should be exceptional, and of course it doesn’t disappoint. As we’ve mentioned previously, each Wright Flyer chronometer contains a little of the original muslin fabric from the wing of the aircraft. Safeguarded by Orville Wright for decades following the restoration of the Wright Flyer, the original fabric is so important within aviation history that it accompanied Neil Armstrong to the moon, and now tiny fragments reside in the rotor of each Bremont Wright Flyer.

As if this alone were not enough, Bremont has also seen fit to make the Wright Flyer timepiece the very first to bear an in-house produced movement. Designed and realised in Britain, the BWC/01 movement (see below) boasts 25 jewels, a power-reserve in excess of 50 hours, a Glucydur balance and a micro-metric screw adjustable hairspring. Elegantly made and beautifully finished, this movement is the realisation of a personal goal for Nick and Giles English – the founders of Bremont – and to combine this achievement with the prestige of the Wright Flyer has been, by their admission, ‘mind-blowing’.

The Bremont Wright Flyer measures at 43mm in diameter and is 14mm thick, and, as you might expect, it comes with all of Bremont’s characteristically lavish adornments. The Trip-Tick® case incorporates an integrated decoration ring, whilst the exhibition caseback (see below) lies under domed crystal, and is uniquely engraved with an individual serial number. The sub-dial is branded with the historic ‘1903’ date of the original Wright Flyer, whilst many details are also coated in SuperLumiNova for additional visibility. Water resistant to 100 metres and finished by a pin-buckle alligator leather strap, these timepieces are eminently worthy of the acclaim ascribed to their iconic namesake.

There are three distinct variations of the Bremont Wright Flyer, and all of them are available to pre-order right now at Banks Lyon Jewellers. Each is a subtly different study in contrasts, and all can be viewed from various angles below.

The Bremont Wright Flyer stainless steel watch costs £17,950, and is the most prolific of the three Wright Flyer chronometers, with 300 pieces in global circulation.

The Bremont Wright Flyer rose gold watch is priced at £27,950, and is limited to just 100 models worldwide.

The Bremont Wright Flyer white gold watch retails for £30,950, and is even more exclusive, with merely 50 timepieces set to be in production.

The Bremont Wright Flyer is the result of a match-made-in-heaven partnership between the British brand and the Wright family themselves. Bremont were specifically chosen by the Wrights to launch their brand on an international scale, largely thanks to the former’s previous veneration of historical aviation artefacts within their Bremont limited edition watches, and so the Wright Flyer watch is doubtless set to affirm itself as a legendary figure in ocular horology.

As you might expect, this timepiece is certain to be in incredible demand, and so if you’d like to place an enquiry we recommend that you do so as soon as possible. The Wright Flyer is a fantastic addition to our existing collection of Bremont watches, and if you’d like to receive any more information we welcome you to get in touch with our professional team today.
