Breitling Navitimer Watches from Banks Lyon

Breitling are renowned around the world for their precision and sophisticated design, as well as an adventurous and pioneering spirit which is reflected in each of their watches. Founded in 1884 in Saint-Imier by Léon Breitling, Breitling started producing their own movements in 2009, when they first developed the B01, a self-winding, column-wheel chronograph movement later used in the Navitimer 01.

The iconic piece is a perfect balance of durability, reliability and style. The legendary Navitimer collection was launched in 1952 and is considered one of the 20th-century classics when it comes to watchmaking. One of the most famous ambassadors of the brand and Navitimer wearers is John Travolta, who owns and pilots a Boeing 707 and a Bombardier Challenger 601. The first Navitimer watch was created when Breitling introduced a circular slide rule to the bezel of their chronographs in the 1940s.

The collection is characterised by a clear open-face design and aesthetic choices that add a retro appeal to each model. Navitimer pieces are classic sports chronograph watches brought up to date through top-of-the-range technology.

Breitling watches are perfect for professionals, having been used as a leading instrument by pilots for years – as chronographs, the timepieces are exemplary and are endorsed by the AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association). Breitling watches have remained unchanged for over half a century while continuing to gain recognition as an iconic watch, as well as the world’s oldest chronograph.

In 1961, Scott Carpenter, one of the astronauts in the Mercury space program, contacted Breitling so that they would add a 24-hour dial instead of the usual 12-hour one, and the watchmaker obliged. This made it easy to tell the time while in space, given the lack of day and night. This watch was worn by Carpenter in 1962 during his space flight and, later, Breitling manufactured 24-hour versions they called Cosmonaute Navitimer.

Breitling instruments are capable of measuring flight times, fuel requirements, rate of descent or climb and speed, among others. The watchmaker believes in manufacturing watches that are reliable and can perform even in the most extreme environments, so it’s not a surprise that their models are favoured by pilots and aviation enthusiasts everywhere. The Swiss brand also fits certified chronometers in their watches.

Traditional Design and Functionality in Breitling Watches

The typical style of Breitling pieces includes polished cases, bracelets and large watch faces that improve readability. Many of the brand’s pieces have a completely mechanical automatic winding mechanism and come with several complications. In addition, Breitling Navitimer watches come with a patented slide rule bezel, which was developed as a tool for pilots and remains one of the collection’s most iconic features.

Breitling watches are available in a stunning variety of contemporary styles. From classic metals to coloured dials, the brand has always ensured each model is of the highest quality and designed to withstand even the most intense or challenging conditions. In a field where reliability and precision are of the utmost importance, Breitling have managed to create highly technical pieces perfect for both professionals and brand aficionados.

To be able to offer quality products, Breitling works only with the best suppliers and expert watchmakers. By using sophisticated technology and rigorous test procedures, Breitling watches undergo approximately 1,000 controls during production. These controls analyse technical, dimensional and aesthetic elements, ensuring all Breitling watches are performing optimally.

In the Navitimer range, you can find sophisticated and high-performance pieces such as the Breitling Navitimer World watch, as well as Breitling Navitimer 8 watches, which offer a variation of the traditional design and function; included in this range are chronographs with 1940s’ influenced aesthetics, such as the Breitling Navitimer 8 Chronograph 42 watch.

The Navitimer 01 possesses Breitling’s technical expertise and comes with the in-house COSC-certified Calibre 01 movement – it also comes in materials like steel and rose gold, as well as differently-coloured dials, such as black and blue. The bi-directional rotating bezel offers a smooth handling of the slide rule and, while the watch is designed for the skies and not the water, it still comes with a water resistance of up to 30 metres. With case sizes ranging from 43mm and 48mm, this model also sits comfortably on the wearer’s wrist.

If a watch is COSC-certified, you can expect high levels of accuracy and precision. This certification tests chronometers that are Swiss Made, ensuring they are made from the best materials and components and are capable of enduring rigorous quality tests – only around 6% of all Swiss watches that undergo these tests actually pass them, further proof that Breitling chronometers are crafted with the utmost care and precision.

Cases in Breitling watches have to accompany pilots in extreme settings, so they need to offer impact protection and be capable of enduring intensive use. They are complex in a technical way but also have a high-end aesthetic appeal. When it comes to Breitling dials, including those in the Navitimer models, Breitling ensures sophistication and refinement, as well as precise finishing. Combining modern, cutting-edge technologies with traditional skills, the Swiss watchmaker ensures the best possible readability and performance.
