We are privileged to be able to offer some of the most exciting Swiss luxury watches in the world within our collection of second hand timepieces, and few watches can claim to have played a more impressive role in the history of mankind than the legendary Omega Speedmaster. Omega has built its reputation upon a desire to constantly revolutionise the watchmaking world, and this limited edition Omega Speedmaster Moon watch is an unrivalled example of this spirit of innovation. An Omega Speedmaster has been present upon all six missions to the surface of the moon, and its capabilities are all that one would expect from such an illustrious timepiece.
The first manned NASA mission to set foot upon the moon took place in July 1969, although even before it had been officially approved the OMEGA Speedmaster was being used as the preferred timekeeping instrument on several of the single man exploits to Mercury. So ahead of its time was the Speedmaster, that the latest models remain almost unaltered when compared to their preeminent forefathers. With only a few selected refinements, the most significant being the higher grade contemporary movements, the Speedmaster continues to sit atop the pinnacle of horological excellence to this day.
Any timepiece to take part within not one, but six lunar voyages is undoubtedly a paragon of precision and resilience, and the Omega Speedmaster comes full equipped to meet these demanding requirements. The dial of the wristwatch has been rigorously scratch and glare proofed to convey the highest forms of protection, whilst the movement within the Speedmaster is one of the famed Caliber 3313 Co-Axial Escapements that Omega has become so renowned for. Exhibiting premium standards of stability and a power reserve of 52 hours, the continuous small second hand can only hint at the marvellous qualities of workmanship contained within the Speedmaster; with the movement beating at an astonishing 28,800 vibrations per hour.
Aesthetically, the Speedmaster is also a triumph, with a sleek and sophisticated black and silver visual theme that is guaranteed to stand the test of time. The black bezel is twinned with the colour of the enamel dial, and also makes use of tachymeter indicators to take full advantage of its status as a certified chronometer. Contrasting white adornments are also put to maximum use upon the dial, with the baton numerals and all of the hands being outlined in this colour. The 44 mm case is coupled with a stainless steel bracelet to ensure the practicality of the watch, whilst reversing the timepiece reveals a transparent exhibition caseback, enabling the inward workings of the Co-Axial Escapement to be freely observed.
This Omega Speedmaster has served its time within our display selection of luxury timepieces, but despite this the wristwatch itself is still gloriously intact. Supplied with all of its original display packaging and a completely undiminished 2 year manufacturer’s warranty, this particular timepiece was also among the select Speedmaster models to be released as numbered editions. Designated with the number 631, this timepiece is therefore a genuinely iconic model that saw only a very limited release, making this opportunity all the more noteworthy. Â
The currently accepted cost for a replacement Omega Speedmaster Moon watch would be £6800; and that only makes the value of this limited edition second hand timepiece even more exceptional.  Here at Banks Lyon this historic chronometer can be yours for a remarkable £1550 less that this asking price.
