Sometimes, Breitling tends to be thought of as a largely masculine watch manufacturer, but when you look at their horological portfolio as a whole, you’ll see there are numerous timepieces that exude a distinctly feminine flavour. Whilst some families of Breitling watches might be restricted to male audiences, the Breitling Colt assemblage is not one of them, and it’s been equally targeted at female audiences for quite some time. As is the custom with Breitling, a selection of straps and bracelets are provided to meet a variety of preferences. A stainless steel bracelet can be chosen to match with the 36mm casing, or a smooth leather strap if you’re a follower of this more modern trend of fastening. What’s more, an exclusive leather strap is obtainable from Breitling in either a colossal array of colours or patterned with a wave motif, so if you’re a lover of ‘bespoke’ style, you can almost create your very own distinct Colt 36 if you desire. As if that wasn’t enough, you can procure a diamond set bezel too, so if there’s an angle that Breitling hasn’t covered, we really can’t think of it; the attention to detail is outstanding.
Boasting alternately polished and satin brushed finishing, the new Colt 36 is undoubtedly equipped to impress, but it’s also no slouch in terms of performance. Such considerations are vital to the Colt collection as a whole, and so it is equipped to withstand water within depths of up to 200 metres, and the crown is also screw-locked. Although common in gents’ watches, such a complication is not normal in ladies’ horology, so once again Breitling is setting a trend to be followed. The movement is chronometer certified and conforms to an ultra-precise SuperQuartz pattern; a popular decision with female watch connoisseurs, and one that’s endorsed by aerobatics champion Aude Lemordant.
Fully kitted out with Breitling’s four signature ‘rider-tabs’, and with all the usual considerations like glareproofed sapphire crystal and a highly readable dial in place, this is a truly ‘Breitling’ wristwatch in every sense; which should refute the oft-levelled accusation that Breitling is a ‘men’s world’ beyond any doubt.
