Six days of innovation, creativity, and some of the world’s most unforgettable pieces of jewellery and watches; BaselWorld.
The team here at Banks Lyon have recently returned from this elite and prestigious event; taking time away from our stores in Lancaster and Kendal to travel to beautiful Basel in Switzerland. We explored the world’s leading watch exhibition and had the pleasure of discovering some innovative designs and styles.
The annual event, held during the spring, is a platform for enthusiasts from far and wide to showcase designs, brands, memorable timepieces, jewellery collections and much more, all while clinking a glass and socialising with like-minded individuals. It is by far one of the most important and significant showcase events each year for many.
With over 1500 exhibitors and thousands upon thousands of unique and stunning pieces, this event is the ultimate occasion to seek out remarkable craftsmanship and design. It’s fair to say our experience was one to remember.
Stand-Out Pieces
Only the finest and most striking pieces are seen at the showcase. From million-pound diamond-encrusted watches to twenty-five million dollar natural 10-carat intense pink diamonds. There were many stand-out pieces which drew the attention of Banks Lyon, but in particular, the new Breitling Navitimer 8 is an exquisite timepiece; notably an important addition to the Breitling Navitimer family.
The new collection of watch creations by Gucci are simply outstanding too, following in perfect transition from the well-known and much-loved fashion theme and colours. Gucci has always been known for their unique colour schemes and exceptional take on designs – with the new additions following suit.
Messika diamond jewellery never fails to excite the crowds of jewellery lovers and businesses, and their new ‘skinny’ collection has its very own spotlight, with its sheer elegance and beauty shining through every piece. The pieces are also affordable, making them an extremely popular item.
One of our favourite pieces from the event was the new Hublot Classic Fusion 38mm Titanium Diamond Bezel Classic Fusion watches,with the option of a sunray blue or pink dial. This bursting theme of colour creates a stunning addition to the Hublot brand.
For jewellery, our favourite would have to be the new Marco Bicego ‘Africa’ gem set jewellery set with natural coloured stones in 18-carat yellow gold. The elegance of the piece shone just as much as the mesmerising colours.
From Basel to Lancaster and Kendal
There are many brands we stock here at Banks Lyon that were spotted amongst the sea of magnificent pieces; from the Fope 18ct gold bracelets to the Messika Skinny collection. There was a wider introduction of gold into the Omega SeaMaster range, as well as the fabulous Orlinski Hublot limited edition pieces.
TAG-Heuer was a main player in the event, their display was very prominently positioned at the entrance facing the Hublot stand and welcomed excited visitors to see new and more traditional products. Along the main aisle, Omega and Swatch dominated the main hall.
Inspiration and Highlights
The atmosphere of the event is always one to remember. The passion shines through in the art that is displayed, not to mention the constant excitement surrounding the event as a whole. It has to be said that the event has evolved over the years, adapting to the advances in social media and technology. The new model displays are often revealed over social media and some brands may reveal snippets the night before.
No matter how many times we visit this fantastic event, we always get excited about the new products coming through; the limited editions, new ideas and constantly evolving trends.
The Importance of Basel Watch World
Having attended BaselWorld for some thirty-five years, it initially began as a one-day visit; the event now stretches over several days and as the business grows with the team, we endeavour to give the team the opportunity to experience the world that is BaselWorld. It is an opportunity for us, as a multi-brand stockist to see the majority of brands in one single location, rather than travelling to London or Switzerland to see every one individually.
Within the industry alone, this event is important for many businesses and brands to showcase the very latest trends and innovative ideas. Although the Richemont Group, Cartier and IWC brands have moved away from Basel some years ago and now hold their own annual events in Geneva in January, the exhibition still holds great value for others.
