2016: A Year in Review

2016BL

As 2016 ends, we here at Banks Lyon would like to take the opportunity to look over some of our favourite pieces from the last twelve months. It has been an exciting year for both watches and jewellery, seeing some stellar pieces coming through our doors here in Lancaster.

So, what pieces have truly stood out in 2016 and become a highlight of the year?

March

March saw a royal spotlight on the Cartier brand and one of its most stunning pieces: The Tank Anglaise. It is a brand that King Edward VII described as, ‘the jeweller of kings and the king of jewellers,’ it’s little wonder that luminaries have favoured the Tank collection such as Princess Diana and Angelina Jolie.

The Tank Anglaise builds upon the stunning features of the original Tank; however, there is less emphasis on the original’s art deco design, preferring, instead, to focus on clean and stylish lines, rounded at the corners for the maximum in timeless aesthetic.

April

The beginning of 2016 saw the rise of the smartwatch in earnest, with many companies trying their hand at this market. One of the most successful and innovative versions of this has come from Tag Heuer.

Customisation is at the heart of everything a smartwatch is and does – it’s about a device that works for you, no matter who you are or what you’re looking to achieve. Tag Heuer did this and more in their Connected Rubber Strap Watch; created in a rainbow of colours including black, red, blue, green, yellow, and white.

With apps that include incoming calls, Google Calendar, WhatsApp, Evernote, Google Fit, Google Maps and Shazam.

May

Flowers bloomed in May with these stunning 18ct White Gold Diamond Drop Earrings. The marquise diamonds in this piece sparkle and shine, a throwback to a more decadent era that produced it.

The beauty of a vintage piece is that no one will have the same style as you; especially because you can easily find limited edition or exclusive pieces that are no longer made today. You will be hard-pressed to find someone with the same piece dropping approximately 2 inches from the earlobe.

June

As the new Official Timekeeper of the Tour de France, Tissot delivered its traditional sophistication to the world’s biggest cycling event with a special collection – visualising the companies connection to the world of sport in stunning designs.

This sporting connection can clearly be seen in the Tissot T-Touch II Titanium Watch. This watch boasts features such as a constant analogue time display and a variety of digital functions displaying weather, altimeter, chronograph, compass, alarm, and thermometer. It is the ideal partner for any sporting enthusiast and the stunning colour is hard to miss! A true stand-out piece.

July

The height of summer saw a more floral tone to pieces made from dazzling amethyst. Highlighted in Chopard Imperiale 18ct White Gold Amethyst Earrings.

Inspired by antique embroidery patterns, the royal purple tint of the amethyst truly speaks to the antiquity of this piece. The white gold that surrounds the gems gives a crowning aura to an already amazing aesthetic. The perfect accompaniment for a night of sophisticated elegance.

August

Of course, the month of August saw the whole of the UK swept away by Olympic fever. Here at Banks Lyon we were particularly impressed with the Omega official watch to celebrate this event; the Limited Edition Seamaster Diver 300m.

The piece comes with a black ceramic bezel ring and lacquered, colourful numerals in blue, yellow, green, and red; a brilliant choice that flawlessly symbolises and encompasses the Olympic rings. You’ll find the Rio 2016 Olympic Games logo engraved on the case back, as well as the limited-edition number that further highlights the exclusive nature of this stunning watch.

September

In September, we fell in love with several beautiful pieces of fine jewellery. But, this Key & Heart Pendant was a showstopper.

Signifying the opening of a new season of amazing pieces, this gave Autumn a spectacular sight. It is the height of romance – who wouldn’t want their partner to give them the key to their heart, after all?

This piece is available for purchase here – available on 0% finance from £14.06 per month.

October

Part of the Chopard Happy Diamonds Icons collection, this white gold pendant is one of the most interesting pieces of 2016.

Made from 18ct white gold, this is the perfect accompaniment to any wardrobe as it blends with your chosen style. Decorated with a circle of pavé set diamonds, this is a stand-out piece that will certainly catch the attention of enquiring eyes. As they will be unable to move their eyes from the dazzling cascade that the diamonds produce.

November

November was the perfect month for engagements – never more so than with this dream platinum engagement ring.

Platinum is widely known as the least reactive metal, meaning that it is guaranteed to retain its stunning aesthetics and quality as your love matures and the years fly by. Unaffected and precious, the platinum ring offers an excellent representation and reflection of your unique love, for all of eternity.

December

This is a more recent love of 2016, but one worth another mention. There is a number of amazing Gucci watches to suit every woman, but this dazzling gold piece is as timeless as its name.

The Gucci G-Timeless Diamante Dial Watch has a 38mm case composed of light yellow gold, stainless steel and PVD. The piece is water resistant up to 50 metres and is perfect at home or on holiday.

Omega Globemaster Annual Calendar

Of course, you can track the year much more efficiently with a watch that can not only tell the time but the day and month as well.

The Omega Globemaster Co-Axial 41mm Annual Calendar watch allows you to do just that, in an elegant and cool finish. The grey dial with blue detail is a testament to modern design. It is a beautiful addition to the Globemaster line and the perfect addition to your own collection.
