Claudio Ranieri Becomes the New Face of TAG Heuer

In April, TAG Heuer announced in two simultaneous events, in London and in Hong Kong, the brand’s partnership with the Premier League. TAG Heuer has become the first ever Official Timekeeper and Official Watch of the Premier League.

The announcement marked the Swiss brand’s English footballing début and, a few days later, Claudio Ranieri joined TAG Heuer’s family of ambassadors next to Cristiano Ronaldo. This partnership adds to TAG Heuer’s presence in the world of sports, as they are very active in tennis, golf, and Formula One, and have concluded recent deals to become the Official Timekeeper for the German Bundesliga, the Australian National Football Team, US based Major Soccer League, and the Chinese Football Association Super League.

Born in Italy, the current Leicester City manager started his career as a professional football player with Roma, or Associazione Sportiva Roma. The majority of his career was spent playing as a defender for Catanzaro and Palermo. He initially coached Vigor Lamezia, and his first managerial position was at Campania Puteloana, where he took charge in 1987.

He made his name at Cagliari after joining in 1988, resulting in the team gaining promotion to Serie A from the third division Serie C1. The years saw him being the manager of many clubs, including Atletico Madrid, Chealsea, Juventus, Inter Milan, and Fiorentina.

July of 2015 saw him take over Leicester City, where the club started the season as underdogs after almost being relegated the previous season. For the first time in the 132 years of the club’s history, they won English football’s top title.

The manager of the moment, Claudio Ranieri, certainly didn’t crack under pressure. With 5000/1 odds to win the Premier League, Leicester City’s win is truly a feat . The Loch Ness monster has 500/1 odds to be discovered, which really emphasises how astonishing the win was!

Gianni Infantino, Fifa’s president, has described Leicester City’s “beautiful story” from having little to no chance to win, to being champions as a “fairytale”. Taking over from Nigel Pearson, Ranieri saw scepticism and pressure to elevate the club, and he kept it together to achieve one of the most remarkable and memorable feats in the history of football.

TAG Heuer certainly chose a perfect ambassador, who is the embodiment of their motto “Don’t Crack Under Pressure”. The manager of the Premier League Champions is sure to accomplish many more great things alongside the Swiss watch brand.
