At Banks Lyon, we are exceptionally proud to be official stockists of some of the finest brands in luxury watches. Now, alongside the likes of Omega, TAG Heuer and Breitling, we are pleased to be able to offer timepieces from the Swiss luxury watchmaker Hublot.

Established in Geneva in 1980 by the Italian watchmaker Carlo Crocco, the brand has always had a reputation for innovation. Their debut timepiece was a gold watch featuring the first natural rubber wristband in the history of the industry, something which had taken three years of research to achieve. Today you find many brands using rubber watch straps – and all are following in Hublot’s footsteps.

The name “Hublot” comes from the French word for “porthole” – the visual inspiration for their bold round watch faces with distinctive screws.

Materials are very much at the heart of Hublot’s philosophy; from their original design innovation of combining rubber with gold to groundbreaking composites which lead the way in modern watchmaking, every piece is crafted from the finest possible supplies.

Their unique proprietary alloy, Magic Gold, combines the beauty and aesthetic appeal of 18 carat gold with one exceptionally desirable quality; it is the world’s first and only scratchproof gold alloy, hard enough that only a diamond could mark it. They also make striking use of their stunning King Gold, an alloy which offers a beautiful red colouration deeper than traditional 5N red gold.

Rubber, the material they pioneered, remains an important material of choice for Hublot, alongside their proprietary alloys and high-tech carbon fibre and ceramics.

In 2004, when the energetic Jean-Claude Biver assumed duties as CEO of Hublot, he looked back at the original Hublot timepiece with its groundbreaking fusion of gold and rubber and set the core concept of the brand: The Art of Fusion.

Under his expert guidance, the brand quickly flourished; orders increased threefold in a single year, and the “Big Bang” chronograph was released to immediate success, garnering several awards in the process.

He also brought Hublot to wider attention with a marketing strategy that took the brand to their potential customers. In 2008, Hublot became official timekeeper of the UEFA EURO Championship; just two years later they were named the first official watch for FIFA and the prestigious World Cup.

Their innovation is not, of course, contained to their materials; they also lead in their craft. The UNICO movement, designed and produced entirely in-house, brought Hublot to the fore with a range of exceptional achievements that go beyond the standard.

From the flyback function of the chronograph to the fact that it registers a full 60 minutes instead of the more standard 30, the movement has been designed to be more than a mere workhorse movement but a standard to aspire to, meaning that any aficionado of the horological art would be proud to bear one on their wrist.
