As somebody who works with watches it seems that I have developed a tendency to notice and identify the watch somebody is wearing just from a fleeting glance. This is especially true when I’m watching a film or the television, where I see a number of popular celebrities sporting expensive designer watches I can instantly recognise from one hundred paces.
Time pieces from the Rolex Submariner range seem especially popular at the moment and whilst watching the TV I’ve spotted people as diverse as Richard Hammond of Top Gear fame and actress Lindsay Lohan wearing them. It’s no surprise as watches from the Rolex Submariner range are often seen as somewhat of a status symbol, so naturally they’re very popular with wealthy celebrities, even those who don’t often spend that much time underwater. What is surprising is my ability to identify the make and model of a celebrity’s watch from a short-lived glimpse. However, the Rolex Submariner is an undeniably iconic watch, so its little wonder that is stands out from the crowd. Designed for use by divers and well known for it’s water resistance under a significant depth it is famed for being used by people exploring harsh environments such as the Antarctic and of course for appearing in no less than eleven James Bond films. So, with a watch that has become as iconic and instantly recognisable as the Rolex submariner then maybe it’s not that surprising how often you’d notice somebody wearing one. |
