Longines and Exploration
The Longines brand has long been associated with exploration. In fact, the watchmakers date this back to 1899 when they equipped Prince Luigi Amedo of Savoie in his Arctic expedition. Just 20 years later, Longines was named the official supplier for the International Aeronautical Federation, and began to develop highly accurate and reliable navigation instruments. Longines even partnered with pilot Charles A. Lindbergh, who, having completed his non-stop solo flight over the North Atlantic in 1927, designed a navigational instrument. This was then created by Longines and was used to help aviators calculate longitude, enabling them to find their exact geographical location. The partnership between Longines and explorers has helped to inform over 100 years of watch design with timepieces crafted with the adventurous in mind.
