Second Hand Rolex Explorer in Stock Now

Watches themed around the specialist sphere of exploration have increasingly been in the public eye of late, with the Bremont Supermarine Terra Nova GMT watch being a notable addition to this esteemed assemblage in recent months. However, such themed wristwatches are by no means a recent development, and other timepieces such as the Rolex Explorer have been flying the same proud flag for many years. This latter watch has always been a very popular member of Rolex’s celebrated portfolio, and we’re fortunate to currently have an example of the Explorer II in our stock of second hand watches, and this represents a real opportunity for you to acquire this classic timepiece at a reduced price.

The original explorer was a tributary watch that was designed to commemorate the very first time that mankind conquered Everest in 1953, and in fact the members of this very expedition were equipped with Rolex Oyster Perpetual chronometers during the actual ascent. The Explorer II is therefore the spiritual successor of this pioneering timepiece, and it was first unveiled in 1971 to be a consummately refined tool within similarly demanding environments. 2011 was the year when Explorer recorded its landmark 40th anniversary, and as a result of this it was also embellished with a comprehensive overhaul in terms of aesthetics and technology.

Especially designed for those who are traversing polar, jungle, and other exotic localities, the dial of this 2011 Explorer II was increased to 42mm in size to offer better readability, and to the same end the hands of this version were also expanded too. Rolex also took the opportunity to imbue the anniversary model with the spirit of the 1971 Explorer II, perhaps most predominantly by using an arrow shaped 24-hour hand that is coloured a vibrant orange, as this was a fundamental part of the Explorer in bygone years. To complement this, a 24 hour bezel was also utilised, allowing the easy observation of day and night even in extreme regions or depths where it can otherwise become difficult to tell the difference.

As you might expect from Rolex, the technical specifications of this current Explorer II are exemplary. The crown, for example, screws down tight using a Twinlock system that guarantees waterproofing in waters up to 100 metres deep, and the high-contrast Chromalight dial glows with uniform blue luminosity for almost double the length of time you might expect for a more ‘ordinary’ luminescent. Likewise, the 904L stainless steel of the casing is almost indefatigable in the face of corrosion, and an innovative Paraflex shock absorber amplifies the shock resistance of the self winding 3187 movement by an extra 50%. In almost every conceivable respect then, the Explorer II lives up to its ambitious title.

As we mentioned, this particular timepiece is a second hand Rolex Explorer II watch, but this fabulous wristwatch is brought to you by Banks Lyon Jewellers in a practically pristine condition, so there’s no fear of you being anything but totally satisfied with this Explorer. We also extend a 12 month warranty with this watch to give you even more peace of mind. Complete with all of its original packaging and official papers that date back to November 2011 – the very year that this chronometer was introduced – there will rarely be a better chance to gain this icon at such an affordable price.

This second hand Rolex Explorer II watch is in stock at Banks Lyon for 4,530, and for your convenience this timepiece can also be purchased on finance for £36 monthly payments of £113.65 and an accompanying 20% deposit. Other finance options are also available, but regardless of payment method this luxury pre-owned Rolex Explorer II watch brings a saving of a full £1,000 with it when compared to a firsthand model.
