TAG Heuer Welcome Géraldine Fasnacht as Friend of the Brand

This weekend, TAG Heuer took to the mountains to welcome their latest Friend of the Brand: world champion wingsuit flyer, snowboarder and base jumper, Géraldine Fasnacht.

The announcement was made in the heart of the Swiss Alps, to coincide with the International Alpine Film Festival at Les Diablerets where Fasnacht presented her film, “Matterhorn: the Bird-Woman’s Dream”.

Born in the Swiss Canton of Vaud, Géraldine Fasnacht is a world-renowned extreme sportswoman, and a leading expert in snowboarding and base jumping. With twelve years’ competition under her belt, she has won eleven international competitions, and is three-time champion of the Verbier Extreme event.

Her film documents an incredible feat that was long in the planning; after five years of thought and a full year of planning and training, Fasnacht and her friend Julien Meyer leapt from the summit of the Matterhorn – at 4,478 metres, one of the highest summits in the Alps.

This extreme feat, which was achieved last June after an eight-hour climb up the east face of the mountain, is a prime example of the ways in which Fasnacht embodies TAG Heuer’s motto, “Don’t Crack Under Pressure”.

The Matterhorn is an iconic mountain; a pyramidal peak with four steep faces facing the four compass points, it remained unclimbed after most of the other Alpine summits had been attained, and even after the first ascent was made in 1865, it took another 66 years before the north face was climbed in 1931, and the west face (the highest of the four) was not completely climbed until 1962. It remains one of the most deadly peaks of the Alps, having claimed over 500 lives since that first ascent, and even today it is not a challenge to be taken lightly.

At a simple, joyful and respectful event, Géraldine Fasnacht was welcomed into the TAG Heuer family of ambassadors and friends by CEO and President of the LVMH Group Watch Division, Jean-Claude Biver.

TAG Heuer watches have long been associated with extreme sports; their dedication to accuracy, practicality and durability alongside stunning aesthetics makes them an excellent choice for any sports man or woman.
