Bremont Watch Company first launched its collection of highly developed aviation inspired timepieces in 2007 after 5 grueling years in development. Now the company is entering its eleventh year and continues to go from strength to strength.
Always staying true to their core principles of durability, precision and aviation, Bremont is a brand that has a knack of playing to their strengths and as a result producing high quality, tough watches that still stay true to aviation inspired design and construction.
Whilst Bremont only produce around 4500 watches a year, a large percentage being for the civilian market, they have an active interest in producing a number of special projects a year – normally military- only special editions. It is from this that the Alt1 Bremont World Timer was born.
Originally seen as the C-17 Globemaster, a limited edition produced for the military crew of the C-17 around the world, the watch was one of the most intricate and complicated the brand have ever produced. The response was more than Bremont expected and enough to warrant the production of a civilian version.
Since its release at last year’s Basel fair the watch has become a firm favourite of the British brand’s ever growing fan base and sits comfortably in the same category as the Bremont Alt1C and Bremont Alt1P pilots watches. This is their first global timer watch intended for use by pilots and travellers all over the world. Launched in a new Trip-Tick® case with a Roto-Click® bezel and a very complex, highly finished dial this watch stands out from the ever growing crowd of watches that are now being designed for the military.
“The watch has been wonderfully over-engineered.â€
Like all the watches produced by Bremont Watch Company the steel has been hardened through a series of processes at extremely high temperatures to give it a hardness and scratch resistance of 2000 Vickers. One must take into consideration that a standard 316L stainless steel watch case will normally be around 300 Vickers so a selling point indeed for those who may like to play a little rough with their watches! The internal bezel – another talking point from the British brand – is operated by the crown at 8 o’clock and uses a mechanism developed by the company that allows the user to turn the bezel with a satisfying ‘click’ using a system integrating a series of ball bearings.
Add the sapphire crystal that has been coated with nine layers of anti-reflective treatment front and back to ensure the reduction of light reflecting on the crystal of up to 95%, the exhibition case back, and the etched Globe on the dial and this watch really is something to shout about.
The modified automatic chronometer (COSC) certified BE-54AE movement is now finished off at the new Bremont headquarters in Henley on Thames in England. As with other automatic movements once wound the movement of the wearer will keep the mainspring fully wound.
Other aviation touches include the date display that actually takes inspiration from the Globemaster’s Head-Up Display (HUD) and the handmade leather travel wallet that the watch is presented in. The watch comes in three dial colour variations – blue, white and black, and can be worn on either a leather strap or a stainless steel bracelet.
