The SEVENFRIDAY P3/BB

Amid all the excitement in the build-up to Christmas and the New Year, it was very easy for a lot of announcements to rather fly under the radar, and that was definitely the case with a new unveiling from SEVENFRIDAY; one of the most interesting and acclaimed watchmaking newcomers of recent years. Having already achieved great success with ranges like their P1, P2 and M timepieces, SEVENFRIDAY have stuck with the same distinct aesthetics that have made their work such a breath of fresh air in the past, but have now started to expand the inspirational themes behind their watches. Predominantly, SEVENFRIDAY have tended to be stimulated by industrial mechanisms and the like, but this limited release instead adopts influences from the more striking world of cars.

First discussed back in November, if you’ve been slow to notice this wristwatch – like us – then it’s well worth your time. Given that the subject matter behind the design is specifically American muscle cars, the finished product was always going to be bold and memorable, and so it proves to be. Named the P3/BB, the exact inspiration behind the timepiece is the ionic Dodge Challenger 69 from the 60s, and SEVENFRIDAY have sought to replicate the Dodge’s signature powers of engine and design within the form of this new wristwatch. If anything, it’s rather frustrating that the P3/BB is limited to just 350 units, as we’re rather taken with the look of the finished product!

One simple glance between the actual Dodge Challenger 69 vehicle and the P3/BB will reveal the visual association between the two, as the timepiece draws heavily on the stylish black and red colours of the muscle car itself. Even the silver trimming is present, easily seen around the bezel and the inimitable central apertures on the dial, but this isn’t the only difference to more common SEVENFRIDAY models. Limited edition models themselves are rather new ground for this Zurich watchmaker, but they’ve chosen to use this opportunity to try out a subtle new style decision, using luminescence on the hour index. Previously, such an inclusion was only present upon the hands.

A further alteration has been made to the animation ring of the timepiece too, and although this more ‘three-dimensional’ feeling is subtle, it’s nevertheless very welcome. All told, this new SEVENFRIDAY wristwatch is just as gloriously unconventional and desirable as the object of its affections was, and we’re certainly looking forward to seeing what this exciting watchmaker has to offer over the course of 2015. Their style is now very well developed, as is their reputation, so we can’t wait to see what designs they choose to unveil in the coming months. What’s more, we guarantee to bring you a fantastic selection of SEVENFRIDAY watches right here at Banks Lyon.

We already have a large assortment of P1, P2 and P3 timepieces in our stock, as well as the more recently released M1 and M2, and rest assured that we’ll also be looking to bring you the latest models wherever possible too.
