Banks Lyon recently welcomed The Bay Radio's breakfast presenter, Danny Matthews, into the shop for a lesson in how to grade diamonds.

As part of the show's weekly Challenge Danny slot, the popular host was given a condensed lesson in the 'four Cs' carat weight, cut, colour and clarity - before being set the task of putting three stunning stones in order of value.

Banks Lyon manager Bob Breden F.G.A & D.G.A. - a diamond specialist and designer with more than 30 years' experience - said: "The quality of a diamond can vary greatly and has a huge influence on price so we thought it would be fun to give Danny a condensed lesson in grading three Diamonds of similar carat weight to see if he could learn to tell a £1,000 diamond from a £3,000 or an £8,000 one - and he could! It not only proved that he is a fast learner but that you really do get what you pay for."

At Banks Lyon we source all our diamonds direct from the Diamond Bourse in sizes ranging from 0.30 carat to more than 10 carats. But it's not just about size - we assess their colour and clarity as well as the cut and pride ourselves on exceptionally high standards and knowledge. In the 25 years that Banks Lyon Jewellers has been retailing, we have amassed a large national and international client base which relies on the knowledge of owner Rodney Banks-Lyon and Bob, who together handpick every gem and with every budget in mind.
