Last weekend we brought you a feature that looked at a few different models in the Breitling Colt collection, and we spoke a little about how the Colt assemblage has been re-imagined over recent years. However, despite these previous transformations, Breitling have clearly chosen to continue to refinement the Colt range even further, as they have recently revealed that the entire Colt collection is going to be renovated once again, and the results are certainly impressive.
Originally intended for use within the military, the Colt is now firmly numbered among Breitling’s most accessible ranges, and the new redesign seems intent on continuing both of these themes. The promotional video for the Colt retains a wide variety of military references, with famed pilot Mika Brageot seen atop a building while tracing the path of a nearby armed forces aircraft. Intriguingly, the opening of the video also appears to recognise the ongoing popularity of American crime drama Breaking Bad, with a notable allusion to a graphic that has become a signature feature of the show.
As such, Breitling have obviously acknowledged that the Colt’s appeal is now far more universal than it may have originally been, and, in addition to linking the new range to a successful drama, the new Colt introduction builds upon all of the established assets that have made the range so coveted. The iconic unidirectional rotating bezel is still present, and conforms to the usual powerful lines, whilst the four ‘rider tabs’ – now synonymous with the Breitling name – and the satin-brushed aesthetic are similarly evident. These tabs offer additional ease of use and more robust protection to the sapphire crystal, so the characteristic blend of style and substance also couldn’t be more apparent.
The revamped Colt cases are formed from polished steel, and are reinforced with screw-locked crowns and water resistances of 200 metres, whilst the practicality of each dial is likewise augmented by generously proportioned markers that are outlined in SuperLuminova. The freshly re-imagined Colt range is divided into 4 distinct assemblages, with a Chronometer-certified mechanical timepiece, a high-precision SuperQuartz™ watch or chronograph piece, and a small ‘Lady’ wristwatch – completed by a bezel adorned with optional gemstones – all being made available. Finished with a comprehensive array of diverse bracelet and strap designs, the Colt collection continues to offer something to suit everyone.
With a variety of subtle amendments, Breitling have infused the Colt collection with a newfound sense of youth and dynamism, and this change looks set to ensure ongoing fascination with the Breitling Colt range for years to come.
