The Omega De Ville Watch first appeared on the market in 1960 as self winding, water resistant date watches. Their dials were originally marked Seamaster De Ville. By 1967, the De Ville collection had become the largest Omega Range of watches, their popularity being because of their simplicity but varied and adaptable designs, representing watch making in its purest form.
The Omega De Ville was the first watch in the world to use Co-Axial technology, named by Omega the ‘Escapement De Ville Co-Axial’. It was developed to be used in large-scale production in partnership with British Watch Maker Dr. George Daniels. It functions by using an escape wheel with the escape pinion mounted on it co-axially, which therefore reduces friction within the movement of the watch, reducing servicing requirements and offering better timekeeping.
Omega Co Axial EscapementÂ
Today, Co Axial Escapement technology is used in a number of Omega De Ville watches including the De Ville Co Axial Chronograph watch which features self winding movement and free sprung balance. This Omega watch has a classic style with the use of modern watch technology and is even water resistant up to 100m. This model is currently available in stainless steel and red or yellow gold and on a leather strap or stainless steel bracelet

The Omega De Ville Chronoscope is very similar to the previous model in the way in which it functions, however, has a more modern appearance and has an even wider variety of designs.
