Spotlight On: Breitling Outerknown Watches

Since its inception in 1884 in Saint-Imier, Breitling has become synonymous with innovation, precision, and performance. The precision of Breitling watches, as well as their quality and durability, has allowed the brand to establish itself as a world-class expert on technical watches.

Breitling is heavily associated with aviation and military, as well as the outdoors, and the new Breitling Superocean Heritage watches are the perfect example of that with their deep connection to the ocean.

Breitling and Outerknown

Outerknown is a sustainable apparel brand co-founded by Kelly Slater, a surfing legend who’s also part of Breitling’s Surfers Squad. This is the third collaboration between the two brands, as both share a commitment to clean oceans and beaches, and to sustainability.

Ensuring a healthier, safer planet is important for Breitling and Outerknown, but the brands also wanted to create a watch that’s perfect as a lifestyle piece, which they achieved with the new Breitling Superocean Heritage ‘57 Outerknown model. With its modern-retro design and precision, this is the ultimate companion for when you’re at the beach or waiting to catch that perfect wave.

So, with the new release, both Breitling and Outerknown are keen to pay homage to the past while looking forward to a cleaner environment. According to Breitling, the watch expresses the “cool, laid-back lifestyle associated with the surfing scene in Southern California and Hawaii in the 1950s and 1960s.”

In Georges Kern, Breitling CEO’s, words: “We’re thrilled to be able to build on our strong partnership with Kelly and everyone at Outerknown. The projects we work on with them go beyond watchmaking. They underscore Breitling’s commitment to sustainability. Of course, we also love the link to the cool surfing lifestyle and working with the greatest surfer of all times makes that even more special!”

The Breitling Outerknown ECONYL® yarn NATO strap collection consists of vibrant, colourful and fun straps that enhance the watches’ design and are dedicated to sustainability. The ECONYL® yarn is made only from recycled nylon waste, some of which has been taken from discarded fishing nets.

Breitling Superocean Heritage ‘57 Outerknown Watches

The new Breitling Superocean Heritage ‘57 Outerknown is available in a stainless-steel watch and in a limited-edition model of 500 watches with an 18k red gold bezel. Both have a bronze dial, arrow-shaped hands, oversized indexes and concave bezels.

The watches are inspired by the original 1957 Breitling Superocean watches and their casebacks have an engraved Outerknown logo. They’re also C.O.S.C.-certified chronometers, are powered by the Breitling Caliber 10 (which offers a power reserve of 42 hours) and come with an Outerknown ECONYL® yarn NATO strap.

Precision and aesthetics are perfectly balanced in these watches, so you’re getting a timepiece that not only looks good on the wrist, but which also performs well no matter where you are. These Breitling Outerknown pieces are great for everyday wear, for an outdoor adventure or even for a special occasion and are perfect for those who want to make a statement.

Precise and with a stunning retro-modern appeal, this stainless-steel model has a 42mm case and a brown Outerknown ECONYL® yarn NATO strap. Comfortable on the wrist and ideal as a lifestyle piece, the watch is a fantastic example of sustainability while providing the performance you’ve come to expect from Breitling.

What makes this watch such a suitable piece for the outdoors is its water-resistance of up to 100 metres and a concave bidirectional rotating bezel with ultrahard scratch-resistant and shock-resistant black ceramic bezel ring. This means the watch is made to last and can be taken everywhere you go.

The ceramic bezel ring also has a luminescent central dot at the 12 o’clock position, allowing the model to function as a dive watch too.

This Breitling Superocean Heritage ‘57 Outerknown watch is available for £3,400 or from £51 per month at 0% finance.

This limited-edition model – limited to only 500 pieces – also has a retro look that makes it distinctive and unique. The 18k red gold bezel, which is perfect for those who like to make a statement, manages to be bold and subtle at the same time.

The colours of the bezel easily complement the bronze dial and brown Outerknown ECONYL® yarn NATO strap. The concave bidirectional rotating bezel and black ceramic bezel ring also work beautifully together, especially when paired with the 18k red gold oversized indexes.

You can purchase the Breitling Superocean Heritage ‘57 Outerknown Limited Edition watch for £4,150 or from £62.25 per month at 0% finance.

These new watches are sophisticated additions to the Breitling Superocean Heritage family, and their one-of-a-kind aesthetic is sure to appeal to many watch enthusiasts – as does the focus on sustainability. The watchmaker’s partnership with Outerknown has led to the creation of unique timepieces loved by many around the world.
