IWC Schaffhausen continues its tradition of celebrating the Chinese New Year with a special edition of its Pilot’s Watch, this time marking the arrival of the Year of the Goat in February 2027. Limited to just 500 pieces worldwide, the new Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 Year of the Goat brings together the brand’s signature engineering-led approach with a design rich in cultural symbolism.

For this latest edition, IWC has moved away from the burgundy dials seen on previous Chinese New Year releases, opting instead for a striking gold-coloured dial. Associated with fortune, prosperity and prestige in Chinese culture, the warm gold finish creates an eye-catching contrast against the black chronograph subdials and ceramic bezel. Gold-plated hands complete the look, while the brushed titanium case, with its subtle polished edges, retains the purposeful, sporty character of the Performance Chronograph collection.

Perhaps the most charming detail, however, is one that isn't immediately visible. Turn the watch over and, through the sapphire exhibition caseback, you'll discover a specially designed gold-plated oscillating weight depicting three goats. The motif draws inspiration from a centuries-old Chinese symbol of good fortune, positive energy and new beginnings, making it a particularly thoughtful finishing touch. There's another playful reference on the dial itself: on the eighth day of each month, the date display replaces the numeral eight with the Chinese character for goat.

Beyond the celebratory details, this remains a thoroughly capable IWC chronograph. Inside sits the manufacture's automatic 69385 calibre, offering a 46-hour power reserve and a chronograph display with the brand's familiar vertically arranged subdials. Water resistance to 10 bar adds everyday practicality, while the black calfskin strap features IWC's EasX-CHANGE® system, allowing for quick, tool-free strap changes.

Balancing the technical credentials of a modern Pilot's Watch with a warmer, more expressive aesthetic, the Year of the Goat edition offers something a little different from IWC's typically understated designs.
