Spotlight On: The OMEGA CK 859 Chronometer Numbered Edition

The 30T2 movement, one of the first in the “30” series of movements by OMEGA, is considered the most famous of OMEGA’s movements in its history. Released in 1939 with the original CK 859 model, the 30T2 was accurate and reliable with its family of 15 jewel movements. OMEGA eventually upgraded to 17 jewel movements later in its life. The brand’s reputation for manufacturing precision timekeeping instruments was likely built from the 30T2 movement, with its large functionally finished plates and wheels. It was the first of its kind and inspired the development of the OMEGA watches we know and love today. As a homage to the CK 859 and the 30T2 movement, the latest addition to the OMEGA family has been announced; the OMEGA CK 859 Chronometer Numbered Edition.

The Novelties 2022 collection

OMEGA launched its Novelties 2022 collection at the beginning of March. While it was thought that the whole collection was announced, with a number of brand new OMEGA Seamaster Watches and some new additions to the OMEGA Constellation and Speedmaster collections, it turns out there was more to be added.

The OMEGA CK 859 reissue is a vintage style piece which draws inspiration from the original CK 859, the model that debuted the iconic 30T2 movement. It’s a stylish piece that will look amazing with a suit for a special occasion or as a smart everyday office watch. The OMEGA Specialities CK 859 Chronometer Numbered Edition

The numbered edition remains faithful to the original with its silver dial and Arabic numbers at 9, 12 and 3 but comes with a number of modernised features. It comes in a 39mm case, crafted from 316L stainless steel and features an embossed OMEGA logo on the crown, with a vintage-style brown leather strap.

Its AG925 silver dial is perfect for showcasing the striking blue steel sword-shaped hands, dark blue markings and OMEGA logo under the 12. A small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock is also showcased in blue, all behind a domed sapphire crystal. OMEGA has thought of everything, including a scratch resistant face, which features an anti-reflective treatment on both sides.

Master Chronometer Certified

Inside, the watch is powered by the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8926, which can be seen through the transparent sapphire crystal caseback. The manual-winding Calibre 8926 offers a 72-hour power reserve from dual barrels, giving you reliability when you need it.

The silicon balance spring offers superior anti-magnetism, meaning it continues to perform well when exposed to magnetic fields up to 15,00 gauss. What’s more, you don’t have to worry about taking a dip with the CK859 on, as the model is water-resistant to 30 metres.

It’s not just the calibre technology that’s impressive, though, with its aesthetics also offering something extra by way of blackened screws and a beautiful finish of Geneva waves in arabesque.

On the polished caseback, you will find engravings including “NUMBERED EDITION”, “CO-AXIAL MASTER CHRONOMETER”, and “CK 859”. This watch is a numbered edition, which differs from a limited edition in that each watch will be individually numbered in the order of manufacturing.

A Vintage-Style Beauty

The OMEGA CK 859 stands out against the more sports-inspired models from OMEGA whilst retaining the unmistakable luxury of an OMEGA watch. It sits perfectly on the wrist with its vintage-style brown leather strap with rubber lining. The attention to detail is unrivalled, with the buckle featuring a beautiful engraved OMEGA logo. The watch was released as part of the OMEGA Novelties 2022 collection but also falls into the OMEGA specialities range as a one-off model paying homage to the vintage model from 1939.
