Synonymous with luxury and elegance, Cartier have created exceptional timepieces and jewellery for royalty and heads of state since the mid 19th Century. The Tank collection of watches was first conceived in 1917 and has a fine design heritage.
Louis Cartier created the Tank Watch in 1917, inspired by the new fighting machines used by Allied troops to help defend France. The design was both rugged and beautiful, reflecting the impressive construction and performance of the military vehicles. The strong lines represented a departure from the traditional round-faced watch design.
The latest addition to the Tank Collection is the Cartier Tank Francaise. Featuring the classic Cartier Tank metal bracelet with links reminiscent of indomitable vehicle tracks, the Tank Francaise also exhibits influences from French architecture with bevelled edges to the watch face. The clean, straight lines are yet another iconic design standard from the house of Cartier and pre-date the Art Deco movement of the 1920s, which saw the aesthetics of perpendicular lines introduced to architectural design around the world.
All Cartier timepieces share the same standards of construction, reliability and luxury materials and the Tank Francaise is no exception. The movement may be either Quartz or self-winding mechanical, depending on the watch model. Bracelets are manufactured from 18 carat gold and steel and the crown is capped with a spinel mineral gemstone, combing the watch-making and jewellery expertise of the Cartier name.
The Cartier Tank Francaise fuses the classic lines and construction of the iconic Tank Collection of watches, with the elegance and refinement of the very best of French design.
