The Definitive Rolex Watch

The Rolex Day-Date is widely considered to be one of Rolex’s most iconic and definitive watches. When it was introduced at the Besel Fair in 1956 it was the first watch to display both the day and the date, hence the moniker.

As one of Rolex’s most popular time pieces the Day-Date is available in a variety of different styles and finishes. The majority of Day-Dates are produced with a 36mm case as standard, although there are some models available with a slightly larger 39mm case, both cases are produced in platinum as well as yellow, white and rose gold in Rolex’s own foundry.

There is also a great deal of variety when it comes to the dials, bezels and bracelets of Rolex Day-Date watches. There are many different version of the watch available, some featuring extremely ornate embellishments such as cut diamonds set into the bezel or dials made from gold and encrusted with fine diamonds.  As the Day-Date is one of Rolex’s most instantly recognisable and iconic watches it is hardly surprising that such a great number of variants have been produced. The fact that the display that shows the day to the wearer has been translated into twenty six languages is indicative of the global popularity of the Rolex Day-Date.

Although the Day-Date was introduced many years ago production has not stopped. Naturally this is largely due to the incredible popularity of this watch. However, over the years a significant number of improvements have been made to the classic Day-Date model as new technology became available. Today’s Rolex Day-Date incorporates all the functionality and features you’d expect to find in a modern Swiss luxury watch whilst retaining the classic style of the original model.
