The TAG Heuer Monza, has been re-made yet again by the Swiss watch maker for 2011. The limited edition Calibre 36 Chronograph was unveiled at the Baselworld watch and jewellery show in March 2011. While the design of the case is close to the same as the original 2000 remake, the dial design brings something totally different to the series.
With the majority of TAG Heuer’s remade watches being inspired by collections from the 1960’s and 1970’s, the 2011 Monza is inspired by the manual wind Chronographs of the 1920’s and 1930’s, making the time piece stand out from other TAG Heuer re-editions. This change will be welcomed by enthusiasts as not a huge amount is known about the Heuer designs from pre-1950, whereas watches from the 1960’s and 1970’s are still available in their original designs. So little is known about these watches, that since the release of the original remake of the Monza many people stated it to be a remake of a 1970’s watch, the Heuer Camaro.
Upon closer inspection though, the similarities between the 2011 Monza and the 1933 Chronograph are striking, with the very same 38mm case design being used on both watches, and the striking styling of the hands from the original Monza being incorporated into the remake. The traditional, yet contemporary design of the TAG Heuer Monza lends the watch a striking look on the wrist, and allows it to be worn both casually and formally.
The 2011 remake of the original TAG Heuer Monza is set to be released in June 2011 in a limited edition batch of 1911 original time pieces.
