Gents Watch of the Week: Breitling Chronomat 44 B01 Automatic Watch

The second gents watch by Breitling to be displayed on our Watch of the Week feature is the quintessential star of Brietling’s prestigious range of timepieces, the Breitling Chronomat 44 B01 Automatic Watch.

The Chronomat 44 perfectly represents a universe that supports exceptional feats of performance, sporting brilliance and a desire to strive to surpass one’s own personal limits. Symbolising a blend of style, strength and elegance, this is a watch that is ideally suited to either the intensity of a sporting clash or the quiet sophistication of a business night out. It has been Breitling’s consistent aim to meld together both form and function into a selection of unparalleled timepieces, and  the Chronomat 44 is equipped with a 100% in house chronograph movement, representing the zenith of Breitling’s long standing pursuit of manufacturing true “instruments for professionals”.

The 44 mm case conforms to a never before seen elongated profile that smoothly adheres to the wrist. Breitling specifically uses only the finest corrosion resistant steel alloys for their watch components, and the case is available in four distinctive versions. These include an all-steel look, a steel case that is augmented by a bezel boasting four solid gold markers, a steel case with a gold bezel, and even an all gold version for an extra touch of class. Additionally, care has been taken to glareproof the sapphire crystal to both protect the Chronomat 44 from scratch damage and shield the user from adverse lighting effects. Water resistant to an impressive depth of 500 metres (a total of 1,650 feet), the Chronomat 44 is therefore fully worthy of claiming the title of a genuine diver’s watch.

The Chronomat 44’s bezel is a unidirectional rotating model, making it a ubiquitous aid when it comes to measuring the time of a dive, or perhaps even a flight. The bezel is also engraved with uniquely crafted numerals that combine to produce a dial of exceptional clarity which still retains a prominent sense of character. This dial allows you to choose between either hour markers or more traditional Roman numerals, so the information is therefore apparent in a fashion that also utilises subtle depth effects to further boost aesthetic functionality.  The originally conceived crown guards and push piece rings provide a robust defence against all the impact and incidents that are common during day to day watch use, just as the metal bracelets are fully capable of resisting any excessive traction that they are exposed to.

The creation of the Caliber B01 means that Breitling has now joined an exclusive group of timepiece manufacturers that can claim to possess a signature mechanical chronograph movement. The Caliber B01 has been subjected to more than two weeks worth of concentrated trials that have resulted in it being able to endure the most extreme conditions without pause. Featuring a state of the art column-wheel device, the Caliber B01 uses a vertical coupling clutch to prevent any unsightly jumps from being evident during the movement of the watch hand. Breitling has also invested in a self-centering device to remove the need for individual watch corrections, and with a 70 hour power reserve and a date that can be adjusted at any time, all of this mechanical innovation has in no way compromised the user friendly nature of the timepiece.

The Breitling 44 Chronomat B01 Automatic Watch constitutes just one out of the extensive collection of Breitling watches that we stock at Banks Lyon, and it can be yours today for a 10% deposit plus £253.50 per month over 24 months.
