Bremont Creates 6 Unique Watches With Jaguar

Bremont has been exceptionally busy of late, and with the introduction of the Wright Flyer you could be thoroughly excused for thinking that they would have nothing left to offer at present. Once again though, this British horological giant seems intent on proving all such thoughts as gravely mistaken, and they have recently unveiled their intention to create 6 brand new bespoke chronometers in collaboration with Jaguar, the equally iconic British car manufacturer.

This project is being realised alongside the announcement that heralds 6 new Lightweight E-Type Jaguar vehicles; an undertaking from Jaguar Heritage that will finally fill the gaps in the promised original production run of 18 vehicles in 1963. Ian Callum, the director of design at Jaguar, had expressed his intentions to accompany the release of these very special E-Types with a complementary feature, and, in light of the long-observed connection between an interest in classic cars and watches, Bremont were the clear partner for such a venture.

Actually, Bremont and Jaguar have collaborated before, with the former developing an exclusive analogue dashboard clock for the latter’s C-X75 concept cars in 2010, so this allegiance is very much a reaffirming of old ties. Although Jaguar were not looking for a wristwatch with blatantly obviously connotations to their brand, they did covet something that upheld the spirit of the Lightweight E-Type in more subtle manner, and it’s fair to say that Bremont has undoubtedly fulfilled that request.

Individually numbered Bremont watches will stand alongside each of the 6 new E-Types that they are paired with, and, because of the limited numbers in production, these watches will be, in the words of Giles English himself, ‘bespoke’. Each chronometer is 43 mm in diameter, and utilises a sleek black dial after the style of an E-Type RPM gauge. Aluminium from authentic E-Type construction will also be secreted within the white gold cases, and even the hour and minute hands have been chamfered to reflect the distinctive E-type tachometer needles.

For Bremont, the Jaguar watches were also the ideal opportunity to showcase their recently crafted proprietary self-winding movement. This beautifully fashioned mechanical movement boasts a power reserve of 50 hours, and also comes complete with a ‘steering wheel’ themed rotor; an addition that uses alloy spokes and a wooden rim to directly mimic the steering wheel of a Lightweight E-Type. This adornment is visible through the sapphire crystal exhibition caseback, whilst the crown of each model has been patterned to mimic Lightweight Dunlop racing tyres. In a multitude of small ways, then, these Bremont watches are quintessentially Jaguar to the core.

These new Bremont timepieces will debut alongside the Lightweight E-Types themselves in a matter of hours at Pebble Beach Concours, whilst future editions have also been decreed as part of a long term relationship between Jaguar and Bremont. Here at Banks Lyon, we can’t wait to see future developments unfolding from this very exciting partnership, as we already count Bremont watches as some of the most desirable products in our watch and jewellery collection.
