Two is Better than One – Stackable Rings

We’ve been wearing rings for centuries, and few types of jewellery are more firmly established than this small, usually decorative, band that sits upon the finger. Widely used to commemorate some of the most significant milestones in our lives – including weddings or engagements – or simply relied upon to lend a touch of glamour at a dress event, styles in rings have obviously (and quite naturally) changed over the years, and ‘stackable’ rings are currently one of the most popular modern trends.

A cursory glance over internet sharing sites such as Instagram will reveal a plethora of examples where people have chosen to ‘stack’ their rings, and gone are the days when rings were worn singularly, or perhaps two at a time at maximum. In part, the habit of wearing multiple rings on one finger has been popularised by the shift in modern day jewellery forms, with slim and minimalist designs now being fairly commonplace. However, undoubtedly the biggest contributor to this fashion has been the creation of rings that are designed to be ‘stacked’, as this has opened up a variety of new and exciting ways to express individuality and personality through jewellery...

Matched Rings

Many people like to wear several extremely simple and unadorned rings on one finger, but ‘matched’ doesn’t necessarily mean that the rings have to be identical; in actual fact, an eclectic aesthetic often looks more charming. However, a consistent appearance is a common choice to go with, and for good reason, as you can showcase variety by using diverse gemstones or materials.

Flush Together

The ‘normal’ way to wear stackable rings is to fit them seamlessly together – or ‘flush’ – on one finger, and many jewellery manufacturers form their rings specifically to enable this preference. Such a style looks extremely elegant and very clean, and this is undoubtedly the way to go if you want your jewellery to look like it was ‘made to fit’ with another piece (such as at a formal occasion).

Spaced Apart

However, just because wearing your rings flush is the ordinary route, that doesn’t mean that it is the only route. In a more casual setting, why not try to space out the rings on your finger, leaving a small gap between each one? Such a decision has a distinctly less regimented appeal, and it also looks extremely ‘vintage’ in a pseudo 1970s fashion. Remember, there are no rules, so be creative.

Statement Maker

Combining a set of matched rings with one ‘statement’ piece is a great way to catch the eye. For example, a ring with a prominent gemstone would look superb with a few less noticeable bands ‘stacked’ on either side. The extra rings really allow the centrepiece to stand out, whilst also retaining the attraction of a matching set. Combinations are often the key to stunning jewellery.

The great joy behind the adoption of stackable rings is clearly the ‘mixing and matching’ that they enable. We’ve always been able to express our personalities through the jewellery that we wear, but when you factor in combinations and the like, we have myriad ways to look distinctive, and that means we can essentially wear a bespoke jewellery piece any time that we wish. Here at Banks Lyon, we love the trend of ‘stacking’ rings, and that’s why we have such a large selection of gemstone and diamond rings, as well as branded jewellery like Andrew Geoghegan rings, as this way you have the greatest possible choice of rings to intermix at your leisure.
