Bremont: Limited Edition Endurance Model

The Bremont Supermarine Endurance model certainly lives up to the company’s adage of watches being ‘Tested Beyond Endurance’. This name also refers to the barquentine Endurance which sunk at sea in 1914 during Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition. In this famous and ill-fated expedition, Shackleton managed to get his men back alive, a great feat of human endeavour, leadership and endurance.

It’s not surprising that Bremont wanted to honour such an achievement with a fantastic new watch – and make it a limited edition. There are only 300 pieces of this model, and you also have the choice of either a strap or bracelet, depending on your preference. This watch is available at Banks Lyon on 0% finance for £4,795 (strap model) or £5,195 (bracelet model).

Ben Saunders and the Endurance Watch

The Endurance model was developed with Ben Saunders for his Trans-Antarctic Solo Expedition, a retracing of the same steps Shackleton and his men took. This is the second collaboration between Bremont and the explorer, as they have previously worked together on the Bremont Terra Nova series.

Brand ambassador, Ben, has been exploring the polar regions for 12 years and has covered more than 7,000km north of the Arctic circle and South of the Antarctic circle since 2001. He aimed to make the first solo and unsupported crossing of Antarctica in honour of his close friend in his latest expedition, Lt Col Henry Worsley, who planned the journey but fell ill and passed away in hospital in Chile before finishing it.

Ben Saunders used this expedition to sponsor the Endeavour Fund, part of the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, which supports injured and sick military veterans.

For Ben, one of the most important things when exploring Antarctica is saving weight (which he admits he’s “pretty obsessed about”), so he chose titanium for the case. This is because the material is not only durable and sturdy but also lightweight.

While Ben had to end his expedition 52 days in after rigorous weather conditions reduced his food supplies, his Endurance watch was the reliable companion he needed, as it endured the harsh environment of the Antarctic plateau.

After all, this timepiece was designed to withstand the extreme climate conditions of the Antarctic continent, as it was worn on the outside of Ben’s jacket as a crucial navigational device with its GMT hand.

Tested in the Antarctic and COSC certified, the Bremont Endurance Limited Edition is a true masterpiece that, while based on the Supermarine line, it certainly adds something new and unique to the collection. And, according to Ben, there’s nothing better than a mechanical watch for extreme climate conditions:

Giles English, Bremont co-founder, says that “it has been a real privilege working with Ben over the years, he has an unrivalled list of polar achievements and to have him testing our watches out in the field is absolutely fantastic. Nick and I are passionate ourselves about polar history and greatly admired explorers like Scott; to continue supporting Ben in making history is something we’re very proud to do.”

The features of the Bremont Endurance model make it perfect for everyday life and outdoor sports, such as hiking, as this superb watch is ideal for the modern man who enjoys a bit of adventure in his life.
