Bremont and Kingsman

Last week, we mentioned in our ‘Watches at Wimbledon’ article that British horological brand Bremont was lending its expertise to the cast of the upcoming film Kingsman: The Secret Service, and so this week we thought we’d bring you a few more details relating to the release of this highly anticipated feature.

The plot of Kingsman broadly revolves around the same premise as The Secret Service comic book, telling the tale of a British spy organisation that offers a street child the chance to serve their agency at a time when a malevolent global technology figure is threatening stability. Although the film is only a loose retreading of the popular comic book, the concept remains the same, and, if you pay close attention throughout the film, the ‘Kingsman’ agents can all be seen to sport Bremont watches.

Both the Kingsman agents and trainees in the film will be similarly equipped with these high-performance timepieces, which are said to function as ‘tools’ and ‘gadgets’ for the Kingsman agents, and at least two variants have been identified thus far. As we mentioned last time, the trainee spies are equipped with black timepieces that are strongly based upon the Bremont ALT1-B (seen below from various angles), but once they graduate they are then furnished with a more opulent rose-gold chronograph that resides upon an alligator-leather strap.

Kingsman film director, Matthew Vaughn, stated that Bremont were the natural choice to supply watches for the film, as this British-themed spy thriller was already showcasing plenty of other proudly British brands as it was. The military and special forces emphasis that Bremont places upon many of its watch models was another factor to suggest that the connection was a seamless one. As you can imagine, Bremont co-founder Nick English was equally enthused about the arrangement, and one suspects that managing to secure a cameo appearance as a Kingsman agent was merely the finishing touch to an already marvellous collaboration.

According to the Bremont website, the Kingsman watches will become exclusively available to the public in September, albeit in limited circulation, although further details are as yet unknown. Kingsman: The Secret Service premiers in mid-October, so there is still some time to go before this film is actually released. However, the Kingsman watches are expected to play a substantial role in the unfolding of the full storyline, and we’re certainly looking forward to seeing these Bremont watches up-close on the big screen.

Although the Kingsman watches are yet to be unveiled, you can already access a wide variety of Bremont watches here at Banks Lyon, including the Bremont ALT1-B2 GMT chronograph watch that is almost the twin of the timepiece worn by trainee agents in the film. This particular Bremont model is available right now for 36 monthly payments of £95.44 alongside a 20% deposit, and it was undeniably a wise choice by the Kingsman team to base one of the film timepieces upon this already superb chronometer.
