TAG Heuer Up and Running for 2016 London Marathon

TAG Heuer are well-known for their long partnership with those in the sports industry; whether it’s brand ambassador and major tennis star Maria Sharapova winning this year’s Italian Open in Rome, or its association with the world of motorsports. Next year, however, we’re set to see TAG Heuer in a whole new light.

This month, the Swiss watch manufacturers were formally announced as both the Official Timekeeper and provider of the Official Watch for next year’s London Marathon. Over the years, TAG Heuer have played an integral part in the marathons across the world, in cities as diverse as New York, Paris, Moscow, Berlin and Chicago. However, this is the first time that the watch brand has partnered with the London Marathon.

The London Marathon has been a key date on the calendar of both sportspeople and civilians alike since its inception in 1981. In that time, the 26-mile run has raised hundreds of millions for charity. That alone is a fine reason for TAG Heuer to associate itself with the marathon. In fact, the watchmaker has stated that they are, ‘delighted to support an elite event that attracts the world’s greatest long distance runners and an amateur fraternity that commits to an extraordinary challenge to raise money for good causes.’

The London Marathon is, of course, a beautiful fit for a brand that’s famous for its sponsorship of competitive sports; for over 150 years, TAG Heuer has been at the forefront of designing chronographs built for sheer performance and imbued with ‘real racing spirit.’ TAG Heuer play a major role in partnering with an absolute array of motorsports events, including the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Most famous, perhaps, was when the brand featured in the Steve McQueen vehicle, Le Mans, with the TAG Heuer Monaco’s iconic square case becoming a horological star in its own right. This film, alongside the classic watch, has been back in the news of late, with a documentary, Steve McQueen: The Man and Le Mans, showcased at the Cannes Film Festival. McQueen’s son, Chad, even attended an event wearing a timepiece from the TAG Heuer Monaco collection.

However, looking to the future, we’re very excited to see such a prestigious brand as TAG Heuer play such a starring part in the London Marathon. With accurate time-keeping being a key factor for the London Marathon, it seems the makers of such fine and reliable chronographs are well-suited to the role of Official Timekeeper.

Of course, we’ll have to wait until April 24th 2016 to discover whether TAG Heuer are ready for the most famous marathon in the country – we’re certain, with their rich heritage, they’ll ably step up to the plate. In the meantime, however, please feel free to browse our extensive collection of TAG Heuer watches, guaranteed to impress anyone with an eye for style and accuracy. If, on the other hand, you’d like to discuss your individual requirements, then don’t hesitate to contact our team on 01524 38 48 58 – we’ll be delighted to help.
