Omega Baselworld Releases: an Overview

Omega’s Baselworld releases were some of the best publicised prior to the event, and seeing them up close and personal certainly didn’t disappoint. Over the next week or so, we’re going to continue taking a look at some of the most prominent releases from Baselworld 2015, according to all the various brands, but given the fact that we’ve already looked at two of the new Omega watches in detail, we thought that we should take a more comprehensive look at their releases. There was an awful lot to take in, but here are some of the highlights that really stood out for us. Enjoy…

The Omega Globemaster

A while ago, you may remember that Omega announced their intentions to collaborate with METAS to create a brand new watch certificate; one that surpassed even the famed chronometer in terms of accuracy. Well, Baselworld 2015 has brought about the result, and we’re now able to welcome the Omega Globemaster, the very first watch to carry the status of ‘Master Chronometer’. The design echoes early Omega Constellation models, particularly due to the “pie-pan” dial, but this is an entirely new assemblage. A fluted and grooved bezel is perhaps the most individual feature of the Globemaster, other than the revolutionary Master Co-Axial movement, which has been subjected to never-before-seen tests to ensure astounding precision. It’s also stunningly decorative as well.

The Darkside of the Moon Collection

We’ve already spent a little time dwelling upon the new Speedmaster White Side of the Moon, yet the predecessor of this timepiece – the Darkside of the Moon – also received a fresh incarnation at Baselworld. More appropriately, it was re-imagined in a variety of incarnations, as the ‘Darkside’ moniker is now attached to a whole collection of watches. Perhaps the most noticeable design is the ‘Black Black’ pattern, which must rank as one of the most unusual Speedmaster watches we’ve ever come across. Uniformly brushed and blackened, this watch will nevertheless be surprisingly legible in dim light, thanks to the liberal use of Super-LumiNova. In contrast, the gold detailing of the Sedna™ Black model, the luminescent-heavy Pitch Black pattern and the antiquated Vintage Black timepiece are less curious, but the family as a whole definitely strikes us as being eminently collectable.

The De Ville Prestige Dewdrop

The De Ville assemblage has always been one of the foremost families for lovers of pure dress watches to peruse, and the new Dewdrop models soon stood out to us at Baselworld. Two timepieces were unveiled, both featuring mother-of-pearl dials, but with the second exuding irresistible charm thanks to the inclusion of some breathtaking golden butterflies. Timeless in terms of aesthetics, these delicate wristwatches nevertheless boast plenty of technical precision – due to their self-winding Co-Axial movements – so they’re not lacking in any department. The Dewdrop range may be new, but we don’t think it’ll take long for it to become a firm favourite with many.

The Constellation, the Speedmaster and more…

We did say there was a lot to take in! Aside from these three announcements, we also saw Omega introduce new members to the Speedmaster collection – including the ’57 timepiece – further refinements to the Constellation Pluma assemblage (one of the standout introductions at last year’s Baselworld), and the superb James Bond themed Aqua Terra that we covered at the end of last week. With such a plethora of releases to appreciate, you’ll doubtless need a little more time to really enjoy the spectacle, so be sure to visit our Baselworld releases page. Here, you’ll find all of the members in the Omega Speedmaster, Omega Constellation, Omega De Ville and Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra selections that we’ve discussed, and many more brand new wristwatches besides.
