007 and Spectre – Omega Reveals New Bond Watch

We’ve been holding fire on this one for a month or two, and if you’ve been keeping a close eye on the horological landscape you’ll know that the watch set to be worn by Daniel Craig in the latest Bond film, Spectre, has been circulating on numerous internet channels for quite a while. However, all speculation is now over, as Baselworld has brought not only concrete details, but the timepiece itself. Inspired by the Bond coat of arms, this exclusive Aqua Terra has been well worth the wait.

Previous ‘Bond themed’ watches from Omega have concentrated very much upon the instantly recognisable details from the Bond franchise. Things like the 007 logo and a revolver-tipped second hand have all been utilised, but there’s a rather more subtle aesthetic to this latest timepiece. In part, this is down to the incorporation of the less distinctive Bond family coat of arms, but the result is undeniably superb. You can see this emblem upon the tip of the vivid yellow seconds hand, but a glance at the blue PVD dial will also display myriad tiny coat of arms icons in an interlocking pattern. The theme may not suggest “James Bond” to a casual observer, but it certainly looks highly effective.

Continuing the nuances, the oscillating weight – visible through the exhibition caseback– has been cunningly fashioned to mimic the form of a gun barrel, but perhaps the most fitting reference to Britain’s greatest super-spy is evident in the capabilities of magnetic resistance. Usually, a master co-axial movement – such as the escapement within this chronometer – would be guaranteed to withstand magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss, but for a Bond watch, a little more is required.

Because of that, this Aqua Terra is assured to a highly appropriate 15,007 gauss, and a small yellow adaptation of the 007 logo – one of the few overt nods to the Bond franchise – is present on the dial to affirm this. Although this adjustment may seem too small to dwell on, an entirely new self-winding calibre 8507 mechanism is included to achieve it, so no expense has been spared. Each caseback is also inscribed with an exclusive number, so all of these watches are technically unique. Although the references may be understated, this Aqua Terra is a match for any Bond throughout the ages.

There’s almost too much to cover at this year’s Baselworld, but we simply had to dedicate some time to this fantastic chronometer, and you can also request the price and pre-order the limited Edition Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra James Bond Spectre watch from Banks Lyon Jewellers today.
