As official UK Tissot watch stockists, we at Banks Lyon offer a grand selection of these elegant pieces.
Founded in 1853 in Switzerland, Tissot combines Swiss watchmaking engineering with precision and innovation. Tissot was created in Le Locle by Charles-Félicien Tissot, a fitter of gold cases, and Charles-Émile Tissot, his son; they first focused on pocket watches, pendant watches and complication pieces, mainly for the United States market.
In their first year, Tissot delivered between 1,100 and 1,200 watches to the area around Le Locle and, by 1858, Charles-Émile was selling Tissot Savonnette pocket watches across the Russian Empire.
Tissot have always been strongly connected to the world of sports, and their values for performance, technology and precision make them the perfect official timekeeper for a variety of sporting events around the globe. The luxury watchmaker’s first partnership as an official timekeeper was in 1938 during a number of ski races in Villars-sur-Ollon, near the Swiss Jura Mountains.
Since then, they have kept time for world championships in sports like fencing, ice hockey, motorcycling and cycling, where sensors are also placed on the bikes and the track to provide accurate timings.
Tissot has been part of the Swatch Group since 1983, the world’s last producer and distributor of Swiss timepieces. they market to 160 countries and create pieces that are stylish, innovative and technologically-advanced. Tissot watches have been worn by famous figures such as the Duchess of Cambridge, Nelson Mandela, Elvis Presley and Grace Kelly.
Tissot first created pocket watches, but Tissot watches for women were next on their list in 1910, closely followed by Tissot watches for men. Today, they offer a vast range of timepieces that complement many different personal tastes and preferences, but all with the same thing in common: innovation.
The company’s motto, ‘Innovators by Tradition’, epitomise what Tissot is all about. They believe in crafting pieces with advanced functionalities that are accessible to a range of budgets and that attract a wide audience of watch enthusiasts.
Tissot was the first watchmaker to create pieces out of ceramic, mother-of-pearl and wood, and are also responsible for the creation of the world’s first anti-magnetic watch. In addition, they launched the first plastic mechanical watch in 1971, the Tissot Astrolon, and the iconic Tissot Rock Watch in 1985, which was made of stone from the Swiss Alps. In 1998, they used high-tech titanium in their Tissot Titanium 7.
In 1999, the brand introduced its first tactile watch with T-Touch technology, which contains touch-sensitive sapphire crystals to control functions like compass, thermometer and barometer.
Tissot’s electrical motors meant that mechanical production was gradually adopted, enabling them to pursue a serial production of meticulously-made watches. True to their roots, the current headquarters are situated in the same town where a dedicated factory was built all those years ago.
All timepieces in our vast Tissot watch collection celebrate the continuous innovation of Tissot watches and deliver precision with the high calibre appreciated by many. The recognisable ‘plus’ logo is synonymous with Swiss quality and reliability, making Tissot a brand admired by individuals around the world for accessible luxury and those looking for functionality and style.
The watchmaker doesn’t compromise on precision either. Their accuracy has allowed them to become partners and official timekeepers for fast-paces sporting events like MotoGP, NBA Basketball, Tour de France and Ice Hockey World Championships.
Tissot’s timepieces and chronographs pay homage to the brand’s long-standing passion and support for the tradition-rich sport of fencing. Heavily involved in the world of sport, Tissot’s timepieces and chronographs also pay homage to the brand’s long-standing passion and support for the tradition-rich sport of fencing. The suitability for the use of Tissot in fencing lies within the fact that this is one of the oldest sports where timing is so heavily depended upon. Just as Tissot showcases enviable cases of innovation, fencing also demonstrates such an attribute as a living illustration of tradition and innovation – the underlying pillars of this brand.
