However, there is a well established counterfeit watch industry at work that really warrants greater scrutiny. We discussed some of the signs to look out for that you can use to identify a fake Rolex in a previous blog, but we didn’t touch on the fact that there is a whole network of retailers that are exclusively and unashamedly dealing in fake Rolexes.
Genuine Rolex Yatchmaster
A brief search of the web will reveal a plethora of websites selling ‘replica’ Rolex watches, a term that the counterfeiters use to make their product sound more like a legal tribute than the illicit fakes they actually are. These counterfeits are illegal and buying them in the knowledge that they are fakes is also illegal. Also, it’s worth noting that the price of these illegal watches is actually surprisingly high. Admittedly they’re far more convincing than the fake watches of yesteryear, and to the untrained eye they may actually appear almost identical to a genuine Rolex. However, this does not justify the price tag of some of these counterfeits which can sometimes be as high as £400. You’ll quite often see seemingly accurate copies of expensive designer watches such as the Rolex Yatchmaster being sold for these sort of prices and at first they might seem indistinguishable from the real thing. However, if you directly compare one of these fakes to the genuine article you’ll soon see that the quality is utterly inferior.
Buying a counterfeit watch might seem like a victimless crime, but this is often not the case. The profits from the sale of forged goods, especially watches are often used to fund drug trafficking and other criminal activities. Plus, these fake watches are often manufactured by people working in appalling conditions in far Eastern sweatshops. Although the counterfeiters will go to great lengths to make their trade seem legal and genuine it is not. This is something you really should bear in mind before you consider knowingly purchasing a fake Rolex watch.
