Celebrating April with the Diamond (Part 1)

The dust of Baselworld has settled, and although there are plenty of new watches to dwell upon, it’s now time to return to one of our regular topics; namely, the signature gemstone for the month. As we mentioned in the last instalment in this series, we have a mammoth task on our hands this time, as April’s birthstone is none other than the diamond. The undisputed king (or possibly queen) of all precious stones, where in the world should we start when looking at diamond jewellery? Read on…

Throughout the ages, the diamond has reigned supreme as the sole birthstone for April, and the most common significance that this gemstone holds has always related to love. As such, there really is little wonder why the diamond should have proven to be so popular as a gift. Of course, diamonds are also sublime in the aesthetics department, and you may not have realised that the stereotypical sparkling ‘colourless’ diamond is just one of the available hues. More rarely, diamonds appear in yellow, red, blue, green and pink colourations, so there’s superb variety for diamond connoisseurs to enjoy.

Historically, diamonds have been linked with the twelve stones in the breastplate of Aaron – a biblical high priest from the Exodus era – which also led them to become affiliated with the months of the year and the signs of the zodiac. Such antiquated customs are rarely remembered today, and modern audiences are more likely to associate diamonds with “forever” or as “a girl’s best friend”. We’re not about to argue with either saying, so here are some of our choicest picks for diamond jewellery…

Platinum 0.89 Carat Pear Cut Diamond Ring (1.29 Carat Total)

We begin with a brilliant cut diamond piece, as this is by far the most celebrated style of gemstone in current circulation. However, the focal point of the ring is actually a pear cut diamond, and this sizable stone possesses a captivating blend of fire and sparkle. Graded with an ‘extremely high’ colour and superb clarity, the tiny brilliant cut stones coalesce alongside the large central stone in both the halo and on the shoulders of this Platinum 0.89 Carat Pear Cut Diamond Ring, and all this unmatched individuality can be yours for £7,650, or for 36 monthly payments of £170 and a 20% deposit.

18 Carat Yellow Gold Diamond Cluster Ring (1.79 Carat Total)

If our last ring was seamless and almost sinuous in nature, then this 18 Carat Yellow Gold Diamond Cluster Ring has a somewhat sharper profile. The yellow gold shank imbues the piece with an extra element of warmth, whilst the dazzling central cluster of diamonds converges upon a trio of brilliant cut stones. Despite the angular appearance, there’s also the suggestion of a floral aesthetic, and that’s sure to sit well with many feminine preferences. Retailing at £3,950, this distinctive ring is also available for 36 monthly payments of £87.78 alongside a 20% deposit, so it’s well within reach.

Platinum Brilliant Cut Diamond Ring (0.85 Carat Total)

Returning to the cursive appearance of our first ring, this Platinum Brilliant Cut Diamond Ring nevertheless has its own unique aesthetic. The setting of this stone is what really makes it stand out, as the pattern is a ‘rub-over’ design that also includes four separate claws. For a statement-making ring, this particular piece would truly take some beating, and the 950 platinum setting is equally well equipped to complement that unique style. Priced at £3,000, this ring is obtainable on 0% finance for 36 monthly instalments of £66.67 and a 20% deposit. A really unforgettable diamond creation.

As we’ve already intimated, the scope of diamond jewellery is just too vast to cover in one feature, so we’re not going to try!
