Celebrating December with the Tanzanite

It only seems a short time ago that we were discussing November’s birthstone, the Citrine, but now the time is ripe to move on to the December birthstone. December can actually lay claim to a number of birthstones, but all of them share a characteristic blue or purple hue. Both the zircon and the turquoise have been strongly associated with December, but it’s the tanzanite which is now most closely linked with the festive season. Known since the late 1960s, the Tanzanite is a gemstone of incredibly rarity. Located only in Tanzania itself, usually near the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, the tanzanite was originally viewed as a type of ‘substitute’ sapphire, but now it is increasingly valued for its own outstanding beauty.

As we’ve mentioned, the tanzanite is predominately a rich violet or blue colour, although this hue is sometimes exacerbated using heat treatments. On several counts, the tanzanite is a perfect colour for December, with its blue tones ideally mirroring the chilly winter climate, and the purple variants being perfectly in tune with established Christmas colours. Often, smaller tanzanite stones are lighter in shade, erring towards lavender in appearance, whilst the larger gems are a far deeper blue.

An outstanding choice of gemstone for use within jewellery, and possessing all sorts of positive connotations, the tanzanite is present within a wide variety of rings, gemstones and necklaces at Banks Lyon Jewellers. What follows is just a few of our favourite pieces…

18 Carat White Gold Tanzanite and Diamond ‘Stick’ Pendant

Calling this gorgeous pendant a ‘stick’ doesn’t quite do it justice, but this elegant creation speaks for itself nonetheless. Made of 18 carat white gold with alternated diamonds in the eternally popular ‘brilliant cut’ style, this pendant houses 0.45 carats of round faceted tanzanites, and would make an absolutely beautiful Christmas gift. On sale for £545, and available on 0% finance for 24 monthly payments of £20.44 and a 10% deposit, this 18 Carat White Gold Tanzanite and Diamond ‘Stick’ Pendant is definitely a great way to start your tanzanite collection.

18 Carat White Gold Diamond and Tanzanite Half Eternity Ring

Eternity rings need to be special, and the exclusive appeal of a tanzanite is just what’s needed to let someone know how loved they are. You’d have thought that this inclusion would be enough, but this finely detailed ring combines four oval faceted tanzanites with twin pairs of brilliant cut diamonds upon a smooth 18 carat white gold shank. Retailing at £1,465, or obtainable on 0% finance for 36 monthly payments of £32.56 and a 20% deposit, this 18 Carat White Gold Diamond and Tanzanite Half Eternity Ring is undeniable proof that tanzanites and white gold are made to coexist.

18 Carat Gold 3.11 Carat Tanzanite and 0.53 Carat Diamond Pendant

An extraordinary work of art which melds both white and yellow gold with a halo of glittering diamonds, you’d think that the tanzanite in this pendant would have to work hard to stand out, but it seems to adopt the starring role with aplomb. We particularly like the ‘emerald cut’ of this stone, and are very taken with the way that it has been suspended in a way that looks almost weightless. Priced at £6,680, you can nonetheless pay for this superb 18 Carat Gold 3.11 Carat Tanzanite and 0.53 Carat Diamond Pendant on 0% finance for 36 monthly payments of £148.44 and a 20% deposit.

If you’ve yet to purchase a piece of tanzanite jewellery, then there’s no time like the present, as there’s never any guarantee that the supplies of this genuinely one-of-a-kind gemstone will remain accessible. Tanzanite gemstone rings are always popular products with the customers here at Banks Lyon, so contact us now by calling 01524 38 48 58 or email [email protected] and we’ll be happy to discuss your ideal piece of tanzanite jewellery.
