Choose Tomorrow Today: Clooney Brings Omega Chic to Disney Sci-Fi Tomorrowland

When one considers brand ambassadors for the high-end watch market, one of the most highly rated, critically acclaimed faces must be George Clooney. The 54-year-old actor has been the face of Omega watches since 2007, bringing with him a distinction and class few can match.

You might have seen the Hollywood star lately in the prominent advertising for the OMEGA Speedmaster ’57, which pays modern homage to a classic horological design. However, Clooney has been making just as many waves on the big screen this summer, with a star turn in the Disney science-fiction film Tomorrowland.

The film is centred around the concept of time-travel, so naturally, it plays an important role on-screen, not just thematically, but also very visibly. Horological fans with keen eyesight will immediately recognise the watch that rests upon George Clooney’s wrist: A vintage Omega Constellation Automatic Chronometer.

This particular piece was designed in 1958, famed – and, indeed, popularised – because of its simple, strong yet elegant style. It is, perhaps, the perfect match for the film, and not simply due to Clooney’s close association with the brand; as the first watch on the moon, Omega are famous for their connections with science-fact. By featuring in Tomorrowland, the company thematically link both real-world science and the fiction of the films.

Couple that with the timeless quality and style of the Constellation Automatic Chronometer – a piece that looks as fresh today as when it was first released 57 years ago – and you can see why the watch was chosen as a symbol for Tomorrowland. That’s before we even begin to consider the Constellation’s rich tradition of accurate time-keeping.

So what’s the history of the Omega Constellation Automatic Chronometer? Well, as you’re aware, it was created in 1958 – but the family of which it’s part is older than that, with the very first Constellation being produced in 1952. It was Omega’s follow-up timepiece after the highly successful Centenary model, their very first automatic chronometer, released in 1948 to celebrate 100 years of watch-making. While the Centenary was incredibly well-received, they weren’t put into extensive production – that’s where the Constellation came in.

Proving just how popular and versatile the Constellation family is, Omega are still crafting these fabulous models even now. Recently another Omega ambassador, Cindy Crawford, visited Mumbai to highlight the release of the latest ladies watch in the line, the Constellation Pluma. Since Omega Constellation watches are still being crafted today, they’re naturally available for purchase right here from us at Banks Lyon.
