Highlights from Baselworld 2016: A Summary from this Year

baselworld

With this year’s Baselworld drawing to a close, it’s time for us to recap over the wonderful and extraordinary pieces that have been thrust into the spotlight at the world’s most prestigious watch and jewellery trade show.

World-renowned brands that have found themselves centre stage this year include Tag Heuer and Breitling, but there have also been revelations from other horologists at the event. With novelty pieces, exciting partnerships and groundbreaking coverage, there has been an awful lot of exciting news emerging from the Swiss HQ. Here are a few of the biggest stories that we’ve come across while following the event.

Two years ago, Bulgari released the thinnest tourbillon watch into the world, and at this year’s Baselworld, the team went one step further with a timepiece that has an overall thickness of just 6.85mm. Paired with a diameter of 40mm, it is quite a statement. We recently wrote about the importance of watch thickness to help you understand what size of watch is perfect for you.

Bulgari weren’t the only ones to display a novelty feature. In fact, Hautlence unveiled a collection of chronographs called Playground that don’t even feature a watch face. Instead they incorporate traditional games such as labyrinth to be worn on the wrist.

As we’re sure you’ll agree, it has been an extremely exciting week in the world of luxury watches and jewellery. If you would like to find out more about the watches that we discovered at Baselworld 2016, you can follow us on Instagram.
