International Women’s Day and Astley Clarke

Thursday 8th March marks International Women’s Day, an annual celebration of women with an agenda for gender parity. This day has been observed as far back as the early 1900s, recognising the achievements of women in all areas of life.

To celebrate, we have been thinking about the great women in jewellery who have achieved great success through their creativity, innovation and drive to create something beautiful. We couldn’t think of any brand more closely aligned with International Women’s Day than Astley Clarke.

International Women’s Day 2018

Each year, International Women’s Day centres around a specific theme. In previous years, the themes of #BeBoldforChange and #PledgeforParity have been used, and this year will see the theme of #PressforProgress. This theme recognises the findings released by the World Economic Forum’s 2017 Global Gender Gap Report that suggest that gender parity is 217 years away, while calling for people to help reduce this by pressing for progress.

The Evil Eye

The Astley Clarke Evil Eye Biography Bracelet, available for £125, features hand-cut lapis lazuli gemstones with a sapphire pavé and turquoise Evil Eye charm set in 18-carat yellow gold plated sterling silver. The Evil Eye charm symbolises wisdom, a perfect piece for the modern woman.

The Astley Clarke Lapis Evil Eye Kula Bracelet (pictured) is a similar design but at an even more affordable price of £90. This piece features a nugget fastening so the wearer can adjust it to fit perfectly.

To complete the look, the Astley Clarke Mini Evil Eye Biography Stud Earrings are available for just £70. These studs are crafted using gemstone pavé set in 18-carat yellow gold-plated sterling silver.
