New Year, New Watch – the Chopard Mille Miglia

When it comes to starting new trends in the field of high-class ocular horology, few luxury brands could be more acclaimed than Chopard. The festive and New Year season is always a breathlessly busy time when it comes to gift-giving, and if you’re a regular reader of our blog you’ll know that we’ve compiled several such gift lists ourselves. Even though Christmas is over, there’s still plenty of time to treat yourself to a brand new timepiece, and, when we saw a glorious Chopard limited edition highlighted on their website, we knew that we’d found the ideal subject for this latest blog.

There’s always something very special about limited edition timepieces, and our recent blog on the Bremont Wright Flyer hopefully displayed this point beyond any reasonable doubt. Rather fittingly, this particular Chopard chronometer is restricted to just 2014 models in circulation, so what better timepiece could there be to purchase at the close of 2014 itself? Likewise, if you’re a lover of the heritage behind many limited edition watches, then this piece has just such historical value in great abundance, being representative of 26 years of timekeeping at the Mille Miglia race by Chopard.

Of course, it would have been all too easy for Chopard to have released a ‘commemorative’ wristwatch which bore little resemblance to the associated subject, yet not so with this Mille Miglia watch, as the attention to detail is truly exemplary. For example, the dial of the chronometer draws direct inspiration from the green, white and red colours of the Italian flag – the host of the Mille Miglia – and these subtle accents can seen in various forms on the vintage-style face. The reverse of the wristwatch has also been treated with a comparable level of care, as the caseback is prominently engraved with the logo of this iconic exploit from the world of motorsport.

It goes without saying that a watch paying homage to the Mille Miglia must be outstanding in terms of engineering as well, and that’s definitely the case here. We’ve already mentioned the chronometer certificate of the self-winding movement within this model, but it also boasts full chronograph functions, with hour, minute, small seconds, date, 30-minute and 12-hour counters all visible upon the main dial. Luminescent numerals and hands adorn this same dial too, and both the front and rear of this stainless steel spectacle are encased in glare/scratch proof sapphire crystal.

Completed by a robust water resistance of 50 metres and fastened by a brown calfskin leather strap for extra comfort, the Chopard Mille Miglia 2014 Race Edition is described by its creator brand as ‘poetry in motion’, and we’re not about to argue. Available from Banks Lyon Jewellers for £3,560, and accessible on 0% finance for 36 monthly payments of £79.11 and a 20% deposit, we’re definitely very taken with this highly select timepiece, and if you’re similarly impressed by this, or indeed by any of our other Chopard watches, then we’d love to hear from you. In fact, our entire selection of luxury watches and jewellery is at your disposal this New Year, so feel free to call us now on 01524 38 48 58 or email [email protected] to find out more. Have a wonderful New Year!
