Topaz naturally occurs in a wide range of colours; although blue is perhaps the colour most strongly associated with the stone, it is also found in a deep golden yellow, called sherry topaz, and in green and pink varieties. Colourless topaz is also common, and can be coloured through irradiation and heat treatment.
Like many gemstones, the topaz has often been attributed with certain capabilities; it is said that a topaz set in gold and worn around the neck will dispel bad omens, calm anger and heal poor vision. Whilst we’d expect a pair of spectacles to be a more effective solution for that last point, there’s no denying that topaz makes for an absolutely stunning necklace.
