Omega Speedmaster Darkside of the Moon: Back in Stock

Some time ago we were able to bring you some information about the Omega Speedmaster Darkside of the Moon; one of the most exciting and well-received timepieces to be brought about by Baselworld 2013. However, as is the case with all wristwatches of this calibre, they are frequently available in very limited supply, and the level of enthusiasm these watches generate inevitably results in some people being disappointed when it comes to obtaining one.

With Baselworld 2014 having now come and gone, the Darkside of the Moon may have stepped down from the spotlight somewhat, but it really is just as remarkable as it was during the period of its unveiling, and that’s why we’re delighted to announce that this very special Speedmaster is now back in stock at Banks Lyon Jewellers.

The Omega Speedmaster family of course dates all the way back to 1957, but ever since the original Speedmaster – a timepiece that may be referred to as a genuine horological icon – Omega have continually refined the Speedmaster line, and although its prestige simply cannot be bettered they have undoubtedly managed to improve the breadth of its capabilities.

As you’ll doubtless know, the Darkside of the Moon is entirely crafted out of a single block of black Zr02 ceramic, and this chronograph is equipped with all of the usual specifications including a tachymeter bezel, SuperLuminova batons and a gorgeous sapphire crystal exhibition caseback. When you factor in the presence of a column wheel design, a 9300 in-house produced calibre and an anti-magnetic Si14 silicon hairspring, it’s fair to say that the unique aesthetics of the Darkside of the Moon hide a timepiece of impressive substance.

However, it’s the little details that really set this recent arrival to the Speedmaster range apart. Here are a select few of our favourites:

–        The Balance: When the timekeeping of the Darkside of the Moon is brought to a halt by releasing the crown, you can use the exhibition caseback to observe that even the tiny balance is black, also displaying a miniscule and immaculate Omega signature.

–        The Red Detailing: Both the tip of the second hand and the ‘Speedmaster’ emblazon on the dial have been outlined in red, creating an extremely subtle, yet very stylish contrast with the predominantly black visual theme.

–        The Date: The date aperture of this Speedmaster lies at 6 o’clock, but an even more notable feature is the ability to adjust the dial by virtue of moving only the hour-hand; an absolutely ideal augmentation for those who regularly pass between time-zones.

–        The Pin-Buckle: Often, the buckle of a wristwatch receives relatively little attention, but not so on the Darkside of the Moon. With a broad centre to ensure a secure fit, the buckle also bears Omega’s inscribed logo to finish this individual component with aplomb.

Turning the Darkside of the Moon over will reveal a caseback with a unique signature from Omega, and that small adornment really does sum up this Speedmaster; it stands alone within a legendary family of iconic wristwatches. Even the glossed black and red-trimmed presentation box that comes with each Darkside of the Moon has been designed to make a statement. Although this timepiece may not be among Omega’s most recent releases any more, one cannot legitimately claim that it has lost any of its lustre.

The superb Omega Speedmaster Darkside of the Moon watch is available from Banks Lyon for £7,590, but can be yours today on 0% finance for 36 monthly payments of £168.67 alongside a 20% deposit. Other finance options are also available according to our custom, and if you’d like to find out more about this timepiece or any of our other Omega watches then don’t hesitate to contact our team.
