TAG Heuer Switch Allegiance for Next Formula 1 Season

TAG Mclaren

For 30 years, TAG Heuer have celebrated Formula 1 events as partners of McLaren – a historical association which has become almost iconic as the years have progressed. However, as of the end of this Formula One season, they will be jumping ship to Red Bull; a change which McLaren sound more than a little disappointed about in their official announcement:

“McLaren’s partnership with Tag Heuer has been one of the most successful and enduring sponsorships in sporting history. It has lasted 30 years, during which time both parties have achieved enormous success together.”

So, before this significant change comes into play, we thought we’d take a look both at the historic relationship between the two brands, and what comes next for prestigious watchmakers TAG Heuer.

TAG’s Formula One History

TAG have a truly stunning range of Formula One watches which they’ve created in celebration of past tournaments, drawing on many of the key values championed by McLaren – such as high technology, precision and speed – as well as their own interpretations of the sport, to present several different designs, all of which are stunning tributes to a spectacular race.

This year they have introduced a range of new designs, including a red and black ‘McLaren’ special addition which proved that they remained dedicated to their old partners even if plans of moving to Red Bull were already afoot.

Throughout the past three decades they have also created a huge range of other designs, including multiple models which have been especially created for women. We are pleased to offer a large selection of these Formula 1 watches here at Banks Lyon, including the David Guetta and Cristiano Ronaldo special editions shown below. The David Guetta choice is currently available for £1,850.00 or on a 0% finance plan of £41.11 per month, while the vivid green Cristiano Ronaldo watch can be purchased for just £1,200, or on finance for £26.67 per month.

What’s Next?

Just because TAG and McLaren will be parting ways, there’s no reason to suspect that we’ll be seeing any less of this luxurious watch company as we move into the future – as we mentioned before, they are far from pulling away from the sport, but rather moving to work with Red Bull instead.

The two distinct worlds of sport and horology are often brought together, in limited edition and one-off timepieces and unique relationships which see huge watch brands competing to act as official timekeepers, so to see a company like TAG choose to make such a change is far from insignificant.

Only time will tell what this new connection will bring for both brands, but we’re sure that however they choose to celebrate this new era it will be just as exciting as the current ‘Don’t Crack Under Pressure’ campaign. It will certainly be interesting to see how the Red Bull brand is able to shape TAG’s relationship with the sport in new and exciting ways.

While we wait to see how the events unfold, you can browse the full selection of TAG Heuer watches, including the Tag Heuer Formula 1 Collection, available at Banks Lyon here on the website, or visit our store to see them for yourselves.
