Take Control with the Chronomat 38 SleekT

We’ve always had incredible respect for Breitling and their famous connection to the world of aviation. The last time we covered one of their fine designs was with the Breitling Aerospace Evo Night Mission, which was unveiled at Baselworld 2015. Now it’s the time to shine a light upon the most delectable example of Breitling at its best – with a feminine twist.

The Chronomat 38 SleekT is an elegant example of a ladies timepiece that doesn’t shy away from the Chronomat’s origins as a gentleman’s watch. In fact, given its measurements as a mid-size watch, and certain aesthetic detailings, it’s effortlessly presented as a unisex timepiece: in short, it’s the perfect watch for the 21st century.

The original Chronomat, as many horological fans will remember, was first released in 1984; designed to appeal to elite pilots, with a strong emphasis on performance and boundless class. It was an embodiment of the enthusiastic spirit of those magnificent men and their flying machines, and one that is incredibly popular, 31 years after its initial release.

This, the new Chronomat 38 SleekT, is Breitling’s attempt to successfully ‘conquer feminine wrists in a new model with a highly contemporary style.’ As such, the diameter of the case is now 38mm, which not only means it’s perfectly suitable for all types of wrists – both men’s and women’s, but also blessed with a far sleeker aesthetic.

Breitling are certainly proud of its latest creation – as well they should be – with its scratch-proof tungsten carbide bezel forming the centrepiece of the chronometer. In addition to this, wearers will be delighted to know that other options are available, in order to truly customise the Breitling Chronomat 38 SleekT and make it their own. Should you prefer the black-lacquered dial, or the mother-of-pearl edition, the choice is yours. If you wish to add diamonds to the steel bezel, that’s also a possibility. Naturally, a choice of straps is also available, both in leather and the pilot’s metal bracelet.

None of these design choices affects what is, as you’d expect from the craft-masters at Breitling, a high-performing model. Accuracy, as ever, is at the top of the list, with the piece’s precise self-winding movement being chronometer-certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC). Vibrations have been measured as 28,800 vph, with 25 jewels within the watch, and water-resistance up to 100m. The reserve of power will last a minimum of 42 hours, and, speaking of time, the chronograph comes complete with three timers: 1/4th second, 30 minutes, and 12 hours – not to mention the calendar date, visible through a dial aperture.

Imbued with the true spirit of adventure, aviation and accomplishment, the Breitling Chronomat 38 SleekT is a fine addition to the Breitling family. Should you be considering making such a purchase, rest assured, Banks Lyon offer this watch, along with many other Breitling watches from their extensive collection.
