Tissot Celebrates 160th Anniversary

Renowned Swiss watchmaker Tissot has recently celebrated its 160th anniversary at the London Supperclub. A plethora of VIP guests joined the President of Tissot, François Thiébaud, to commemorate the brand’s storied history, and the multitude was also entertained by a wealth of performances and speeches throughout the evening. This event was merely one of several similar occasions organised by Tissot, as on October 21st they also held an assemblage at the Polish National Museum in Warsaw. This gathering was again frequented by numerous media and celebrity personalities, and also featured a collection of specially selected Tissot watches as an exhibition centrepiece.

Founded in 1853, Tissot has proved to be a pioneering brand name in the world of luxury watches due to its twofold emphasis on craftsmanship and innovation. A proud member of the prestigious Swatch Group, Tissot is based in the Swiss town of Le Locle, but has also established a worldwide presence within more than 150 countries. The company has enjoyed such widespread success not only because of its exemplary technological expertise, nor even due to the enhanced specifications of their timepieces, but also due to the incredible breadth of its product range. This dedication to making the world of high-end watches accessible as possible has resulted in Tissot becoming a firm favourite with many horological connoisseurs.

The Tissot signature is ‘Innovators by Tradition’, and this has never been made more evident that through their choice of 160th anniversary timepiece. The Tissot Heritage Navigator 160th Anniversary watch is their preferred selection, and not only does this masterful watch pay a generous amount of respect to a previously beloved Tissot favourite from 1953, but it also fully conforms to a colossal assortment of contemporary capabilities. Its 1950s predecessor was intended to signify Tissot’s centenary anniversary, but the new Heritage Navigator looks to the future by embracing the complete array of functions expected from a ‘travel friendly’ wristwatch.

The Heritage Navigator comes equipped with the precision of a genuine automatic chronometer, but it also displays the time within a comprehensive range of time zones. Allowing the user to set the displayed hour to suit the country of choice, the numbers on the bezel then enable that exact time zone to be clearly indicated at all times. Whilst prioritising the selected time zone, any of 23 other countries can also be viewed using the unique minute tracker feature situated on the dial. The demand for GMT and world timer luxury watches is being increasingly well documented of late, so it is entirely unsurprising to see Tissot combine the essence of a venerated tradition with this new and necessary level of innovation.

This fresh take on the Heritage Navigator was released in time for the iconic Baselworld 2013 event, but it is also available within the vast collection of Tissot watches here at Banks Lyon. Tissot has developed a reputation for excellence through all of its wristwatches over the last century-and-a-half, and we are already eager to see what pristine designs they release during the next chapter of their history.
