It’s New Year’s Eve: a time for celebration, but also one of reflection – and as you raise a glass of champagne and sing Auld Lang Syne tonight at Midnight, we’re sure that more than a few of you will also be considering some changes you want to make for 2016.

Tomorrow we’ll look at some of the bigger lifestyle changes that you might choose to add in to your list of resolutions; for now, however, we’re going to zero in on just one small aspect of your life with some ideas for resolutions which will help you take better care of your watch.

Take it in for Servicing

Plenty of people wait for their watch to malfunction before taking into an expert for some professional attention, however if you decide to get it serviced rather than simply repaired, you could ward off damage – saving bigger expenses, as well as potential complications.

We recommend that owners of delicately crafted Swiss watches have their timepieces brought in for watch servicing regularly, and will check features such as accuracy, water resistance and general conditioning; why not make essential watch servicing one of your New Year’s resolutions?

Use a Winding Unit

If you own an automatic watch, especially one with an intricate complication – such as a chronograph – you are probably all too familiar with how time-consuming the task of winding it can become. You may also be aware that leaving it for a long time without having it wound can ultimately lead to a need for oiling, or even a complete overhaul.

You can avoid all of these hassles by investing in a winding unit: this will wind your watch according to its specific turn per day requirements, keeping everything ticking over smoothly. As a side note, you should also plan to stop winding your watch while it’s still on your wrist, since this puts too much strain on parts of the casing.

Consider Temperature and Humidity

Some conditions are obviously harmful to your watch, but even if you know not to take your beautiful timepiece diving unless it is designed for the task, you might be putting your watch under other stressful conditions without even realising it.

A watch needs to be dry, not damp, so when you take it off at night make sure you’re not leaving it somewhere with high humidity which could cause lots of condensation to form. You should also think of the temperatures that you’re subjecting it too: watches like moderate temperatures which are kept relatively consistent.

Polish and Clean

Our final resolution may be the obvious one, but that doesn’t make it any less important. There’s no good excuse for forgetting to give your timepiece a regular polish, but all too many of us find ourselves falling out of the routine. This point applies to absolutely every watch owner: clean your watch – you’ll thank yourself later when it stays gleaming and fresh!

Whether you’re a lover of stylish Omega watches or classic choices from Bremont, your collection will undoubtedly benefit from proper care and attention! If you’d like to discuss your watch’s needs with our professional team, or perhaps a look for a new model, you can pay us a visit at our store – we’re also available at 01524 38 10 20.
